Well, it's been a bad day...as the French team is pulling away (at #10) and DSLR is moving up in membership....and we're not! :(

Come on...there's plenty of time left...and we would love to have you all for the duration...not only the race.

Check us out...you'll be suprised! :D

Morning bump...as we're losing ground! :(

We're not only slowing down in new membership....we actually went backwards and lost a member to DSLR! :Q:(

The race is near the half way point and we're approaching the top 10 in the world...currently #11....but a ways out from the top 10!

Come on over to DC and ask the many new members what they think now.....you'll be suprised! :)

No one really answered my question the last time I posted it, so I'll ask again?

What is in this for me? Why should I do this?

I've got a 1.4 Athlon with 512Mb ram that is idle most of the time, but I'm not going to subject it to downloading possible virus's, etc... for nothing?!?!

I don't see how a virus could be injected. You simply download a data file from Berkeley that was retrieved from a radio telescope and then the SETI application goes through all kinds of number crunching looking for possible signs of intelligent transmissions.

If you leave your PC on 24/7, then running SETI will not put any undue strain on your PC. If you overclock, the first few percentage points of each WU are very processor intensive and raise the temps of my CPUs a few degree C but then drop back down to normal levels.

The SETI project is the largest DC project in the world (according to Guinness) and the team is a bunch of good-hearted people, too.

And, you'll soon be addicted to stats and work on trying to "assimilate" other PCs, too (I have my dad, father-in-law, and a few friends running it now).

Check out the Distributed Computing forum up here for more info on what's going on!
