Question 4 Sticks of DDR4 same kit up from 2 sticks. What should I expect?

DDR4 3600mhz. Same kit as I already have. It would give me dual channel dual rank with 4 sticks. Or should I go for 32GB with 2 sticks? Would I have to loosen timings and would I have to reduce the clock speed? Thoughts, thanks.

With a Ryzen 3600 and a good BIOS, you may be able to run at XMP settings. I was able to with 2 kits of 2x8GB b die g-skill. Was 3200MHz though.

I think I will give it a shot. Worst case scenario. I will have 16GB for another build and I can leave the 16GB in my 3600 when I build a new system.

I'm running two kits of 2x8GB DDR4-3600 "for AMD" Trident RGB RAM from GSkill in my 3600 rig, @XMP 3600, FCLK 1800.
That is good to hear, Virtual Larry. I pulled the trigger on a 2nd identical kit. My current kit is a silver/red heat spreader kit. The one I ordered is a silver/black kit. That way I will not have to worry about mixing ram kits if they were all the same color. As long as I can get 3600mhz I am happy. For whatever reason my 3733mhz 16-19-19 would hang crash without a blue screen. I lowered it down to 3600mhz and it has been rock solid stable. My motherboard is a B350 and I wonder if that is an issue considering the board is 1st gen ryzen. How many B350 boards out there can run DDR4 3733mhz?

I am building a new rig for Zen 3 later this year. This ram may transfer over to the new build or I may leave a kit behind in this 3600 build.

Board is only going to affect two things wrt memory speed/compatibility:

microcode
trace layout (daisy chain vs T topology)

Most B350 boards are going to be T topology, which actually works out in your favor. Daisy chain is normally better for high speeds so long as you don't have all your DIMM slots occupied. T topology holds up better to accommodating a large number of DIMMs/ranks. Everything else hinges on the UEFI. For whatever reason, different UEFI revisions on the same board can affect maximum stable RAM speed, so naturally different boards are going to produce different results since they are not all running the same UEFI. I would expect most B350 boards running Matisse to hit at least DDR4-3800 with a pair of single-rank DIMMs. I doubt the board will hold you back much, if at all.

Be sure to check out what Ryzen Memory Calculator has to say about it. Doesn't mean you have to follow it exactly, of course, but it may have some interesting suggestions.

Can you get 16-16-16 @3600mhz? That's what I went with on my Threadripper build in a 4 x 16GB kit and didn't have any problems. I know quad channel is more sensitive than dual so maybe loser times are fine.

That is B-die stuff. That is way over my budget. 2-3% better performance for more than double the price. It would be nice to have but the price vs. performance is cost prohibitive for me.

32GB 4x8GB XPG D30's aka CJR Hynix 3600mhz after testing. 16-19-19-36-56 1.37v @ 3600mhz totally stable. The bad news 3733mhz is not going to happen with these sticks. I tried 16-20-20 but it was a no go @ 1.38v. The Hynix doesn't like or need a lot of voltage to perform well. Perfectly acceptable timings and speed for a 3600mhz kit with stock 18-20-20 timings.

But I still need more. I will search for a better option. This memory will be in this rig again after I build my next PC.

I am probably one of the few here who think the Hynix CJR ram is very good ram. Not great but very good. Several months ago it was suggested that I look into E-die Micron ram. So I found a 32GB E-die Kit. It's a 3000mhz kit same as the 3200mhz kit but with Cas 15 vs Cas 16. I doubt there is a difference but maybe the binning is different. Anyway. 16-19-16-36-56 @ 3600mhz 1.4v It needs more juice than the CJR ram but the timings are better and it's only two sticks.

I think there is an issue with the very old B350 chipset that doesn't like going above 3600mhz. It could be the ram but I had the same issue with CJR and now the E-die going above 3600mhz. I can successfully run simple benchmarks but my system hangs during gaming sessions @ 3733mhz. It's much worse @ 3800mhz but will boot and run benchmarks but will have the memory hangs without gaming.

On SSD benchmark the CJR best was 100% and the E-die does 105% with the tighter timings @ 3600mhz. I am not done tweaking things but if any E-die experts have tips, I am all ears. This is the memory that will go into my Zen 3 build later this year.
