Hello all, hoping you can help me out with some things:

1. Just installed Win XP and all is great save one thing. The login and log out screens do not have the blue background they are black for some reason. Specifically, when you go to log into WIN XP you are presented with a screen where you hit ALT + CTRL + DEL to login. Well the back ground screen is black. Any idea how to make it blue?

2. Is there a way to change the disc drive letters as I could in Win 2K. I have my CD Writer as e: and my DVD drive as F: and I want them to be vice versa.

3. Can a NTFS drive live in conjunction with a FAT 32 drive? My master (60gb) is NTFS and my secondary (20gb) is a FAT 32. So far so good, but just wondering.

4. Can you convert a NTFS drive to Fat 32? And if so how?

Thanks all.

These seem kinda silly. I dont know the answers though.

Yes.

Partition magic. Why would you bother anyhow? NTFS is a better solution, unless you are dualbooting with DOS.

HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Control Panel\Colors
Change the Background string to reflect the color you want. You eneter the numbers in as Red, Green, Blue values. You can use the Appearance Properties tab to help determine the values.

Use the Computer Management console to manage drive letters. It's in the Administrative tools.

n0c is right. For more explanation see the following FAQ's.

As n0c has already mentioned, third party software. To learn how to convert from FAT to NTFS consult the following FAQ.

Thank you both of you. I'm still a bit clue less on the black screen problem. The actual log on window itself is normal, but the back ground is black.

Did you make the changes Psychoholic recommended? Black seems to be normal. Atleast here at work we have one or more machines with black backgrounds...

Are you saying the Ctrl-Alt-Del background is black and once you press it, the background turns blue???

geez this is pretty tough to describe I suppose :)

Ok so you boot up your PC and windows loads. You are presented with a log on screen. The log on screen has two screens:

1. small floating screen that will say ALT+CTRL+DEL to logon. (this looks completely normal)
2. The actual background, that is to say the floating screen is on top of this background. Kinda like how your My Documents folder is manilla and you background in windows could be a picture.

Is black normal? On Windows 2K the default is a white floating screen on a blue background. Blue is usually the standard as far as I can tell.

Does that kinda clear it up?

OK then I was right. Fire up regedit and navigate where I told you to go. What is the value of Background???

The default blue should be 58 110 65 IIRC.
