4-pin vs 8-pin 12v connector

I have a pretty good Fortron Source power supply for my Intel BLKD975XBX2KR (Bad Axe 2) motherboard. It came with a 4-pin 12 volt connector and the motherboard has an 8-pin 12 volt socket. I am running an E6600 at stock settings on the board currently.

The motherboard manual said to use the 4-pin to 8-pin adapter for that board UNLESS you overclock.

Does anyone know what kind of problems the LACK of the 4 extra pins presents?

The power supply has two 12 volt rails yet it only has a 4-pin 12 volt connector instead of 8-pins so if that is the reason I don't get it.

Thanks for the expertise in advance.

4 pin is the old standard, 8 pin is the new standard. The enermax noisetaker I just retired only had the 4 pin, my galaxy has the 8 plus two 4's. It's all about delivering stable voltage and I wouldn't loose sleep over it.
