4 Pin vs 8 Pin 12V Connector

I want to make sure that it's ok to plug a 4 pin 12v connector into an 8 Pin 12v female on my mobo. As you may have seen in my mobo on fire post, I tested my mobo and it blew up on me and I want to eliminate any variables other than my own error in testing it w/o a CPU.

So I have Thermaltake Purepower 500W power supply with a 4 Pin 12V connector, and my MSI Neo2-FR has an 8 Pin connection.

Do I need to replace the power supply or will I be okay with the 4 pin?

Edit: I plan to run an 8800 GT, 4 GB Crucial Ballistix PC2-6400 RAM, an E8400, and multiple harddrives, as well as overclock, if this information makes any difference. I'm eyeing the 520 W Modular Corsair and will buy that instead if I do indeed need an 8-pin there.

It may limit your overclock but it will be alright :).

Definitely it would not blow up your motherboard.

The only board I know that would not start without a full 8 pin is the DFI X38.

Do you think running 4x1GB of ram would be the OC bottleneck before the PSU?

Yes, I believe so. I don't see a huge problem though with a P35 board. They handle 4x1GB fairly easily.

The 45nm parts and 8800 gt are great for powerdraw. I see no problems.
