4-pin power to 8-pin power?

Does anyone know if it is safe to use a 4PIN power connector on an 8-pin power socket on a system board? Specifically the MSI P6N for core 2 duo.

I can't say for sure about your motherboard, but I just picked up a Foxcon that could use either 8 pin or 4 pin power for the CPU. My motherboard manual told me where to plug in the four pin connector, and I verified that the + voltage was going to the correct pins and ground on the other pins.

Check your manual.

On weather to use 4 or 8 pin depends on what processor you are using.. I thin you need the 8 pin if you are doing a C2D extreme or a really high end processor. My Gigabyte board woudl take 4 or 8 and even though I only need a 4 I think I plugged in the 8 and it works fine. I'd rather have enough there if i decide to overclock or it just wants it. Check your motherboard book and lookup your processor to see the voltage required if you want to be safe.
