So what else is there out there you can buy for $350-$500 that gives you 50% more fps at 16X12 4X8X?

Thousands of people pay $100 more for Ultra and PE models that usually offer 5-10% greater performance.

Corvettes perform nearly as well as Ferraris, but people who want the best still buy Ferraris/Lamborghinis/etc.

People in modern times keep on proving Aesops Fables are true.

People who want to invest usually put their money into the securities or real-estate markets. They don't buy video-cards. If someone sees value in SLI - let them be, it's their money.

This isn't too practical for gaming atm, but I can see a ton of potential applications for rendering and pro apps in a few years. If I was doing 3d rendering and design think how awesome it would be to have 4-way SLI and 8 GB or so of RAM with a dual core CPU. Drop in a bunch of those PPU cards to offload the physics processing and think how much more power such workstations could have.

no doubt, it is more advantageous to the workstation user rather than a gamer...nothing like having 2 Quadro FX 4400 to do CAD or designing graphics etc....
lol-however much we try in every thread...it always turns into an argument whether SLI is worth it or not!! beginning to get tired....

IT is synonymous with stupid investment. I can't think of anything that depreciates faster. Even cars, with their 30% drop in value the second they're titled to you, probably depreciate slower overall over a decade than PC components. Can you think of anything else that depreciates 70-90% in two years?

Is only a stupid investment if 12 R520's in amr beat it in all benchmarks. Than you will have spent big money to have upper midrange. The market for this setup will not be large, one can only assume that it is a corporate effort to have the fastest.

I think four slots is ridiculous. I'm cool with SLI and 2 slots, but with four, you've got no room for anything else! If you put 4 6800GTs you should be good to go, but I think I'd rather have 2 G70 and have room for 2 tuner cards, and a sound card. I think 4 slots is really overkill, but that's not saying I don't want to see benchmarks. :)

its simple, Graphics Cards, like Ferrari type cars are just toys, you want the best quality WITH a status symbol then you pay through the nose for it........

if all you want is something to get you from A-B with a car you buy a Ford or Honda or Vauxhall,
if all you want is something to display your games so you can play them, but arnt worried about eye candy, you buy a budget-mid end card.

i cant really afford to buy nice home cinema, but i scrimp and save and have a setup worth £5,000 (US$9000 approx). I dont do it to show off to friends, i do it to have beautiful quality sound and vision when i watch films or listen to music. Yet my friends say im mad when i could just pick up a system for a grand that does the same thing...even tho when they listen to it they say it sounds far better than anything they have heard, they dont need it in their own lives cuz it isnt important to them as it is me.

bleah...work...hate it...wanna leave....works do tonight, my team, 10 of us, got a £500 (US$900) budget to spend on alcohol and food in a restaurant :)
worked it out, £50 a head, so i spend £5 on food and the rest on beer and whisky, hurrah :)
