4 Nimh battery (1800mAh) and Charger - $19.99

Gamestop/Software Etc is selling the Monster Power Nimh/Nicad charger and 4x1800mAh batteries for $19.99. The charger accepts AA and AAA battery sizes. Also the charger has a fold in plug for compactness and is a universal input charger accepting 110v-260v. Good to bring along for travelling overseas and also no power brick to tag along. This is B&M only as I could not find it online.

do you guys know for sure that those batteries included with the charger are 1800mAh models? because it does not say that on the web site, and I called 3 different stores, only one had the combo unit, and they did not have a clue as to what batteries are included.

wow, this is pretty cheap for 4 NiMH battery and charger...
guess I'll have to go to my local Gamestop after work.
thanks for the post.

It isn't clear from the website whether any batteries are included. The one I purchased from the store includes 4 batteries. The product packaging states this "2 Monster Powercells & Monster Digital Charger". On the bottom there is a sticker on the outside of the packaging which states "Get 2 Extra Monster Powercells FREE". I'm guessing it could be that on some packaging there may NOT be the included 2 free batteries. Not sure what you'll get if you order online. Best bet would be to stop by your local store. The product packaging also specifically advertises these as Monsterious 1800mAh batteries. So does the Monster website at www.monstercable.com.

Are rechargeable batteries any good. I just got a hp 318 off a nice deal from dell (was $160) after the cupons. No rebates no nothing. But It sucks batteries like there is no tommorow. So i was wondering if these would help me. If not I dunno what i can do to solve my problem. I can't keep buying 4 double a's every 4 days.

this is really good deal, but anybody have any experience w/ this charger, how fast the charge?

recommedation: get the maha 204f charger, this charger will discharge your battery before charge, therefore condition your battery, also you can select how fast you want to charge your battery, the lowest setting is trickle charge to condition the battery. the lowest i can find is 22.95 + shipping for this charger alone.

Before everyone gets excited first we need to verify with absolute certainty if this charger does include 4 AA NiMH's and if they're really 1800 mAH's. IF this is true then it's a really hot deal.

In the mean time there's a similar hot deal which is a little more hassle but gives you more.

Panasonic 5 hr charger + 6 AA 1600 mAH's + 2 AAA for $19.99 after $5 MIR at your local CostCo B&M. <--- I bought this last night, awesome deal!

If anyone has a Shopko store near you, they sell 4 Rayovac NIMH rechargables for $9.99. Both the AA and AAA were the same price when I was in there today.

Be careful what brand of batteries you get. Not all brands are created equal. Once I bought some Varta brand 1200mAh AA's. They were crappy, didn't last long and 3 of the 4 went bad after a year and had to be thrown out.
Then I got some Nexcell 1300mAh AA's and they are pretty good, but don't have a very good shelf life. I bought a lot of these, and I haven't had one go bad yet.
After that, I got some Rayovac 1600mAh(?). The chrome and gold ones from Wal-Mart. Those had the BEST battery life, AWESOME shelf life, and I haven't had a single one go bad yet after a year.
Lastly, I bought some Sunpak brand 1600mAh. These are GARBAGE. Sunpak SUCKS worse than any other. SUPER short battery life. Virtually NO shelf life (they won't last a week just sitting around). It's just been a few months, and I've already had 1 of the 16 go bad (won't charge).

Man, this was deal was posted just after I last checked the forum...I just got back frrom wallyworld where I picked up the $19.99 Rayovac charger and a 4-pack of Energizer 1700 mAh NiMH AA's for my new $169 CC Kodak 3MP camera. The Rayovac batteries were 1600 mAh and a buck or so less than the Energizer. I could not find any 1800.

What I am wondering here, because I know nothing about batteries, is there a big difference in mAh ratings?

So how much were the Rayovac AA batteries at Walmart? I don't know how much the Energizers cost so 🙂...

Personally I think the Rayovac charger and the Rayovac batteries are a better deal than all of these other ones. You can get a 12 volt adapter for the Rayovac charger to use it in the car (see the Rayovac website - did they have the adapter at Walmart?). The Rayovac batteries tested well and the 1 hour charging time simply rocks. Some people say that will shorten the life of the batteries but I can deal with that if I get the faster recharge times...

Of course a slow charger would be great for at home overnight charging. Am I the only one who is going to end up with 3 charges? Got one free with my Olympus C-2100 UZ, I'll buy the Rayovac 1 hour, and then probably a Maha slow charger.

The 4-pack Rayovac 1600 mAh was ~$10, Energizer 1700 mAh was $11.xx. A 4-pack of Energizer AA Lithium (non-rechargeable) was $10.

The one-hour charger was $29, I got the slow charger for $19. I don't think this one will take a car adapter as it does not have an external transformer for AC like the fast charger did. IIRC the fast charger only did 2 AA/AAA, while this slow chareger can do 8 AA/AAA or 4 C/D (not like I have anything that uses those big ones anymore)

Some specs for the Monster Charger. NiMH AA & AAA batteries are fully charged in 3 hrs. Nicads in 4 hours. You can charge either 2 or 4 batteries at a time. When charging 2 batteries the charger will require 8 hours to charge. When charging is complete it will automatically switch to trickle charging so you can safely leave the batteries in the charger.

This is probably not the best charger you can buy. However I like it because of its small size (fold in plug), accepts worldwide voltage (110-260v), and it doesn't need a seperate power adapter. This is a great unit to take along for travel overseas. Another charger which I really like is the Lightning Pack 4000N sold at www.ripvan100.com. It is similar in size and characteristics as the Monster charger plus it fully charges in only 1.5hours and it also has a battery conditioning feature like the maha 204f.

just got back from GameStop, bad experience....don't wanna talk about it....lets just say they don't have the best bunch of people working there. I asked if they had a battery recharger and they gave me that look as if I was stupid or sumtin...then they say oh, you can check a couple stores down at Radio Shack. I looked around the store for awhile, maybe like 10mins....and what do you know, i see them hanging inside a glass case... If they even bothered to look they would have found it....sheesh....anyway.... I guess I did talk about...

sorry about the rant, had to let off some steam...

anyway....these are indeed $19.99, marked down from $29.99. Each battery says 1800 mAH on it, initial use requires 24hrs charging, after that its takes 3hrs to fully charge for NiMH and 4hrs for NiCad

Would post pictures but don't have any more batteries left, they are being charged rite now. 🙂

XeonTux:

The 1 hour charger can do 4 AA batteries at a time (see here). I assumed you brought the fast one so I got a bit confused. The slow charger sounds great if you have the time but I need to get the fast charger for traveling (going camping with batteries at rustic campsites = not a lot of time to recharge).

Thanks for the prices on the AA NiMH packs. From what I've read around the web the Energizers aren't rated well so I wouldn't buy them unless they are a new model that tested well. On the other hand the Rayovacs are really well rated. Walmarts price on the Rayovac AAs is great - the same pack is $11.99 at Target.

The mAh ratings on the batteries is basically how much power they can hold. Of course some manufacturers and brands rate their batteries for high mAh but can't really live up to the rating. Right now the sweet spot seems to be 1600 mAh.

Here is one place that has a battery shootout:

http://www.imaging-resource.com/ACCS/BATTS/BATTS.HTM
(it explains the whole mAh thing too)

Does the slower Rayovac charger warn you to remove the batteries as soon as they are charged or can you leave them in overnight without worry?

Imaging Resource's Battery Shootout

hey guys check this link out for those who want to know relatively which brands are good to stick with and for what price

imaging resource is one of the better digicam resource sites out there and the owner did a battery shootout not too long ago (month maybe?) and he put up a nice chart of results by simulating the high current drain of a digicam... he admits it was not a perfect test but its a nice reference anyways

hope this helps but the distributor he recommends doesn't have great prices.. just plain old normal retail prices so i just put this up to compare the different hot deals you guys are finding for NiMH batts... and for those of you without NiMH for your digicam.... BUYSOME or all your efforts to save those $$ on this forum will goto waste in about a few months 🙂

<< hehe you beat me by 2 mins on that link to the review site >>

The more the merrier 🙂. I checked the site a couple weeks ago and I don't think he had posted the update on the GP 1800's yet (it said check back within a couple weeks). So he must have just updated within the last week or so.

<< Does the slower Rayovac charger warn you to remove the batteries as soon as they are charged or can you leave them in overnight without worry? >>

It warns not to store the batteries in the charger, so it is not a trickle-charger or whatever. It does make reference to charging overnight or for 24 hours, and nowhere does it state to remove them immediately, so it appears it is ok to leave them in a bit longer than needed. First thing I checked.

The price difference between the two chargers at Walmart was significant enough for my broke ass...I just wanted to get setup with something before I spent an equal (or greater) amount buying disposable batteries 🙂

I got the Energizers thinking they would be better than the Rayovacs, LOL. The only Energizers listed in your review link are alkaline, was hoping the ones I got would be listed too... FWIW they look like model# NH15-AA
