I have onboard video and a Radeon 5770 and forever if you plugged a PCI-E graphics card you can no longer use the onboard video its one of the other. I tried this a while back because I only have one PCI-E slot connecting a monitor on a KVM to the onboard video hoping to get a 4th monitor going and possibly a 5th (projector) all from the same machine. I read many forums on how onboard video is disabled when you plug in the PCI-E card and they were right it didnt work and wouldn't let me use the onboard video because I had a graphics card plugged in. I never disconnected the 4th monitor from the KVM.

I updated the video drivers and a few days later rebooted my machine and the 4th monitor is now on and working in the catalyst drivers. Im assuming the 11.8 drivers did this. I know 11.9 came out today but Im on 11.8

My Radeon 5770 and Onboard graphics are working together. WooHoo!

Thought I would throw this out there.

What is your motherboard? I think that makes a big difference. My motherboard has a simple switch, turn on one, or the other, or both. So I just choose if I want to turn on the discrete graphics card and the onboard graphics at the same time, by adjusting the setting in BIOS of my motherboard.
