I dont really know the quality, its a 3 pound density, all sizes cost the same (meaning single up to king. Buy a king, fold it on ur twin bed, and u got a 8 incher!!!). It's 179.99 at overstock.com w/ 1 dollar shipping. Through a fat bellfold(i.e. wallet) deal i got $10 off, and overstock has %4 cash back, which i belive i got $6.40 for my purchase. so i guess i ended up paying about 155 dollars after all is said and done. not bad for a king size mattress topper. They also have 2 inch and 3 inch versions for around $80 and $130 i belive. First hot deal, so if it sucks, sorry.

edit for link : 4 inch mattress topper on overstock.com

For 2.5" might wanna check Costco (Store or on-line).... a 4" topper can cause problems getting sheets to fit. And with Costco, you can always take it back....no questions no hassle.

Mattress Topper Full $99.99
Mattress Topper Queen $111.99
Mattress Topper King $134.49
Mattress Topper Cal-King $134.49

Link to on-line catalog...using keywords "memory foam" results include bets and other products.

Might as well replace your mattress with the foam. Cant imagine the cover staying on through the night.

i guess a folded-over 8 incher is better than a 4 incher? ;)

There is a memory foam thread here that gets bumped every few weeks. It has been a while since I have read it but if I remember correctly the better stuff is 4 or 5 pound density. Another thing I remember is that thicker is better. Less than 2 inches save your money.

HDTVMan sheets for thicker beds are not that hard to find. I have a seclect comfort bed and it is around 16 inches thick. We have bought sheets that say up to 18 inches that don't work that well or stay on well. I am just saying that it isn't impossible to buy sheets for thick beds.

If this was higher density I would jump. Good find though.

My Serta has memory foam for it's pillow top rather than a regular pillow top. Havent measured but it seems pretty thick. I went back and forth at the bed store and decided on the foam, and Im happy with it. The bed is stupid thick and I can sheets for it np.

bought one of these when it was advertised as 5 lb (they screwed up and quietly changed the listing a few weeks after i purchased, and just in time for my return period to run out). it's pretty comfy, but 5lb density foam would be much firmer, and probalby much more comfortable. this topper is just too soft and seems to be almost breaking down (getting softer) already - we're going to pick up some 5lb foam from amazon in a month or two and relegate this one to the spare bed.

see the emattress.com thread on chubby wallet for more info.

yeah, we got a memory foam mattress that has 3" of 5.5lbs density foam for the topper, and it is superb! I also got one of the costco 2.5" 3lbs toppers, and found it just too soft - not enough support for my back to be comfortable (but it does on our guest bed).

All of the deals on toppers I've seen seem to be only 3lbs density - the good stuff seems quite a bit more.

We paid $480 plus $100 shipping (right across country - east to west coast) for a king size mattress kit from http://foam-fabrication.com (includes 3" 5lbs topper, 5" foam base and a good zip up cover - pretty much identical to the ready made one they sell on their other site : http://www.bergad.com/mattress.html - though a good bit cheaper). Costs a lot more than just a topper would, but MUCH cheaper than going for a tempurpedic branded one. I can't recommend it enough - it's so comfortable.

I've also seen http://www.foambymail.com mentioned, but don't have any experience of them.

Sleepwarehouse has the 5lb/3" King topper for $249. I ordered a 4lb/3" from them and everything was great.

I haven't seen too many 5.5lb toppers tho...would be curious to see how firm it is.

More than 2" may be too much for some people. Sleepwarehouse.com sells thicker pads, but recommends the 2" at 4 pound (or higher) density. (Less than 2" said to be too thin to work properly, less than 4 pounds density said to be insufficiently supportive).

From their site: "At the same time, most of the benefits of memory foam are only gained in the first two inches. As a result, adding a 4? memory foam pad to your existing mattress won't necessarily double the comfort and luxury received from a 2? product. In fact, depending upon the firmness of your mattress underneath, using too thick of a memory foam pad may actually diminish the lumbar support many consumers are seeking. In terms of density, a 3lb memory foam we find to be insufficient to deliver increased comfort to the average adult and is not as soft or supportive as a 4lb or 5lb product. There is a reason why the most popular configuration of memory foam toppers sold on the market today is 2? thick and 4lb density."

(I added the bold highlighting.)
The Costco pads are listed as 2.5" at 4 pounds density. Seems like a good starting point. The Costco price does not include shipping ($18.11 or more) but does include a terry/polyester cover. Not available at local Costco store (Livonia, MI). At Sleepwarehouse.com the cover is extra ($24.90 or more) but shipping is free.

UH, your links are for the same site. A queen mattress kit is 699. Good grief, how did you get 580 for a king?

I bought a 1.25" twin and then a 2" king when I realized all sizes cost the same price at overstock.
I cut the king in half and gave half to my sister.
I sleep noticeably better.

I don't know how they can sell all sizes for the same price without losing money.

Yep, sorry, the first link was missing the www : http://www.foam-fabrication.com/mattress.html - this takes you to their custom foam ordering site.

If you get it from the bergad site (or foam-fabrication.com without the www), the two pieces of foam will be glued together and be in the cover - i.e. a standard mattress. If from the www.foam-fabrication.com site, then you get the two bits of foam and the cover separate. I figured it was well worth the savings for the 10 mins work :)

The two pieces of foam stick together well enough on their own not to need to be glued, so there doesn't seem to be any downside to getting the kit. Also gives you the option to replace the top section later if you want.

wow, thanks for the good replys. I figured 3 pound is a little soft, but i like soft beds, so i went for it. I dont like returning things, but if i have to, i'll return a 160 purchase.

Also should say, we tried the 2.5" 4lbs costco topper (yeah, it is 4lbs density, not 3 - I was mistaken) on top of the memory foam kit mattress (3" of 5.5lbs memory foam on 5" firm base foam) just as an experiment.

End result was way too soft - not enough support - so I'd suspect folding over a 4" 3lbs topper to give 8" of 3lbs foam would not work too well - you'd sink into it, and probably never be seen again!

Funny, but I felt something similar with a 3"...like motion sickness...took only about a week to get used to tho.

Hmm... good point.
Now I don't feel as guilty about getting "two for one" anymore.

Anyway, I tried folding the 2" king over to turn it into a 4" twin but I would sink too much for it to be comfortable.
Maybe I'll try some 4 or 5 lb. stuff when this one dies.

Does anyone know how these foam-memory products in this thread compare to genuine tempur pedic products? Is there much of a difference or does tempur pedic just charge a big premium for its brand name..?
