4 in 1 drivers? help!

Ok, Im really into the game battlefield1942, and Ive been reading tweaking guides. Well my setup is an Abit kt7A mobo,1 gig duron o/c 1180 and 512 ram. WIN ME for OS. Ive read getting the VIA 4 in1 drivers will help performance. If I install that, does that mess with my BIOS, or just update drivers within windows? Its kinda hard to explain what Im asking. Like I was wanting to update my BIOS, and my teacher was like its not worth you messing with it unless you know what your doing cause you only have one chance or something. So I was wondering by installing the VIA 4 in 1 drivers , is that just like updating my BIOS?

hope i left enough info.

It's fine to do, all through Windows. I didn't get any perf increase though when I went for the Hyperion 4.45's. 3D mark, Unreal Tournament and other stuff all seem to run pretty much exactly the same speed.

ok this 4 in1 stuff has messed my puter up.. When it starts, I go through the win ME login screen and bam black lines through my desktop. on my quick launch , I can see the icons but their black. When I goto menus and click off of them, their still there. I want these drivers off. How do I uninstall them?

Ok, I got most stuff back to normal, how I dont know. Everytime I boot up I get a runtime error, dlll file is missing(when I reboot later , Ill get the error name.) and then after clicking close, I get a dynamic library link error??? a binary file or something?? have no idea.

Anyways, now my sound isnt showing up(the little icon in the taskbar) So I reinstall my ISA sound card(yes ISA) and then driver also, no go.

this 4 in 1 driver thing is nothing but a pos so far.

any ideas?

Im thinking of just formatting

Ok, since I cant reformat in plain old dos like in 98. I know what fdisk is, but how do I format through it? I have a 20 gig HD and half of if it full,at the beginning it ask me to run large disk support should I? after that what are the steps plz help so I can just reformat everything.

Yikes. I think you've managed to unlock yet another "hidden feature" of WinME.

1) Format using Windows 98 boot disk. In FDISK when you're asked if you want to enable "Large Disk Support" (FAT32) choose "Yes". FAT32 is far superior to FAT16.
2) Install Windows 98(SE if you have it).
3) Install the 4-in-1's aka "Hyperion" 4.45. They are a must for any VIA chipset system ... and I don't see how you ran without them. 😕 Following this, install the rest of the drivers for your sound card/video card/network/modem etc.
4) Your teacher is also wrong. Flashing the BIOS isn't dangerous unless your area is prone to random power outages. And you can always reflash to a lower revision again later.
5) Come back here and tell us how it went. 🙂

I always find if I dont install the 4in1 dirvers, my performance is less until I install the drivers.
Sometimes 3d apps won't even run properly (lockups) without the drivers installed.

Ok, Im a little confused, sorry. How do I reformat using win ME, like in98, I could just type format in dos and bam. ME says it cants do it because its being in used windows when I try and type format c: or whatever. Yall said something about a boot disk, I dont have one. I have a win ME cd with cdkey and awin 98 cd with cdkey.

Can I make a boot disk? if so, how?

is there a step by step thats not to hard to comprehend?

You could just download a boot disk from the link below. Been a while since I ran Windows 98.
