Ok, I have 2 Hard Drives and 2 cd devices. What order should they be connected to each controller ?

Ide 1 - System drive, cd
Ide 2 - 2nd drive, dvd

or other. I will be capturing video to the 2nd drive so it needs to be as fast as possible.

Thanks,

griffin

How about some elaboration? Devices on the same channel still have to share a cable.

would i be better off buying a ultra 100 pci card so every device has it's own channel ? Sounds good to me, but is it overkill ? My mainboard is already ultra 100 speed.

What bdog231 said.

Go to NewEgg. Search with phrase 'ide card'.

NewEgg offers a Promise IDE adapter card for $23. These are PCI plug-in cards that provide two additional dedicated IDE ports for ATA 33/66/100 IDE devices.

All of your devices can be connected to a dedicated IDE port for maximum efficiency when writing to any device from any other device. No need to configure IDE devices as master/salve configurations, since each device is a master on it's own dedicated IDE port.

Hope this helps!

Yes, that's overkill unless you're copying from one of the slaves to a master.....if your data is coming from a vid-capture card, an extra controller card will just waste a PCI slot and
some of your money. Your current setup will work fine.
