In Tel Aviv, demonstrators gathered at a plaza informally known as Hostages Square, holding up pictures of the hostages along with signs that read, “Bring them home now.”

War brought to any densely packed urban environment was always going to be a slaughter.

Collateral is dramatically increased via Hamas methods.
At least some of their leaders speak positively of such losses, as part of the "cause" for eliciting sympathy.
So Hamas makes military targets out of dense urban environments and "protected" places. Because they know you'll appreciate it.

Anything part of the "fight" and part of the hostage taking, is a legitimate target. I'll stand by that.
And if anyone has trouble wrapping their head around that. There was always going to be collateral. Hamas decided this location, and its people, were legitimate targets.

This does not excuse other conduct reported on during this war. Those issues, Israel's overzealous crimes, are separate from the primary cause that legitimately continues this bloodshed. That is the hostage taking. I will not call for a ceasefire until that issue is resolved.

What makes you think that is not Likud's / Hama's goal?

To lay the foundation of another generations worth of conflict? They both need it to stay in power.


As long as Hamas has those hostages that is going to happen. As long as Netayahu gets them dead that is going to happen.


The only way out is for them to get out alive, one way or another. I am not picky. If Hamas cared one iota for the Palestine people, they would just release them.

It's very easy to be anti-Israel. Pretty much always.

Embedded themselves? Hamas created the social services and civilian infrastructure after Israel refused and the PA failed. That's how Hamas was elected in the first place. The utter failure of the Israeli state to provide for the people living under Israeli rule and the corruption of the PA led directly to the rise of Hamas.

Then why did the Israeli state continue to allow this situation to continue? Israel is the only viable government of the Gaza Strip. The welfare of the Palestinian people living under Israeli rule is an Israeli responsibility yet the Israeli government only encouraged the continued existence of Hamas. Exterminating the Palestinian people under its rule is the option Israel has chosen to finally address the situation, I suppose.
