I don't understand why you bought the Duo Orb cooler when the card already had a very good stock cooler!? Anyway I think that the thermaltake will be better then what MSI has installed on the card, but not by much. You should have left the card in its stock state. ;)

thats probably why i bought the duorb

I dunno why, i cant stand looking at the stock cooler =(

but back to the question, should the number of heatpipes be more important than the number of fans?

the thermalright ultra series progression indicates more pipes is better, but the change by some makers from 6mm pipes to 8mm suggest that volume and internal surface area may play a bigger role.

since heatpipes work with fairly small temperature differentials, it probably doesn't matter that much how cool the fins get with 1 vs 2 fans. The amount of fluid being phase changed and carrying away heat would likely be the limiting factor.

so if the duo orb has larger pipes and more fluid, it may be "better".

no, but i like to admire its beauty sometimes through the clear side panel.

really seems like a waste, if you didn't like the looks of the MSI cooler you could have simply removed the face plate...I seriously doubt the duorb would be better, I'd even wager it would be worse (or certainly noisier)

I have that same video card and my GPU temp is idle at 43c. I have it in a Antec 900 with 4x120 1x200 and the 120mm on my tuniq. So is essence that cooler performs better than the stock MSI one.

Dude... that card looks like it has a VF1000 on it. If it does, I'd stay with that. It's a pretty beastly heatsink. For better performance you could redo the paste w/ AS5 I suppose.
