My system: 6 yr old with TT Xaser full tower case, MSI 845E mobo, 4 gb Kingston Ram, SB Audigy sound card (use with Klipsch 4.1's), ATI Radeon 7500 video, 7 port Dlink USB hub, Comcast Modem, Dlink wireless router, Epson camera, Epson scanner, Brother Laser MFC printer, 2.53 P4 cpu with stock HSF, 2 optical drives, 4 case fans (80mm?), and 4 of WD 80gb harddrives. The only thing I've had to replace is the old PSU. System works fine for my needs. The OS (Win XP Pro) and most programs and data are on the same drive, "C". 2 drives (D and E) I use for audio & video files. 4th drive (Drive F) I use for data backup (plus programs, if I can move them). So far that includes data files for: MS Money, Word, Quickooks Pro, address book, favorites, and photos, which are also all backed up to a 2gm Kingston thumb drive. 3 questions: 1) Can I simply "move" program files from the OS drive to my backup drive #4, using Explorer? 2) Does XP have it's own photo image software for very basic photo adjustments (color, red eye, etc, or do I have to go spend real dough on Photoshop or a cheap substitute. Also, any recommendations for inexpensive image software. 3) I don't have Power Point, but would like something similar to simply view slides as a slide show. I plan on building an entirely new system, but probably not until early spring, 2008, what with the new HD's, new mobos (P38) and chip prices becoming realistic. Thanks for any responses to my 3 noobie questions.

1)You should be able to move the files, particularly if you are just talking about files. If you are also talking about programs, you might want to consider re-installing the larger ones since some programs don't take kindly to being moved, it messes up the works.

2) XP does not have what you are looking for. Grab Picasa from Google, it is free and really good. Roughly equivalent to iPhoto on the Mac, it will get you red-eye, cropping, slideshow stuff, and good photo organization.

3) OpenOffice.org is what you are looking for.

Also, as a future note, generally speaking, we don't need to know what the case is, howmany fans you have, your printers, other peripherals, and whatnot. Especially not in the Software for Windows section. However, please don't take that as a$$-holish criticism, rather just some friendly advice.

Oh yea, one more quick thing...

Check out the GIMP for a photoshop alternative. It is free, and offers quite a few tools that will be fairly comparable to PhotoShop. I have also heard good things about Paint.Net, or something along those lines...

And how can you only have 11 posts if you have been here for almost 7 years :Q

Guess I'm more or a reader! Also, I'm a 61 year old geezer with extreme interests. I really use these forums as a learning experience. Certainly, though, when I do get around for my next (and 1st) build, I'll be posting a plenty in the hardare forum. Thanks, again.
