4 GB Ram - Page File Size

Greetings all,

I am installing Vista x64 tonight with new ram, 4GB DDR2 800 Gskill. The system is primarily for games & video encoding.

I plan on putting the the page file in a small partition on another drive.

Any idea as to how large the page file needs to be, so I know how large to make the partition?

Thanks...

Don't do that, just leave it on the system drive and system managed. If you put it on a separate partition it'll just cause I/O contention with the other partitions on that drive if it ever gets used.

Actually, Nothinman, I was going to dual boot the following:

74GB Raptor: 64GB for XP, 10GB for Vista Page File
74GB Raptor: 64GB for Vista, 10GB for XP Page File
6400AAKS: Games and Apps

Wouldn't this avoid the I/O Contention?

It would, but that's overkill. With 4G of memory you won't even be using the pagefile much so why waste time trying to optimize it? If you insist on moving it somewhere just put it on the other OSes system partition and avoid the extra partitions.

Roger that, less is more, I see your point.

I'll prolly just let the damned thing sit where it is.

Cheers.
