I was browsing Newegg/ZZF/eVGA's website and notice there are multiple models of the 7800GT (not GTX, GT). eVGA's site claims there are 2 models, the copper heatsink and the one without. My question: what the hell are the others and are they performing any better?

The 256-P2-N516 model costs $339 and has a core clock of 460MHz and a memory clock of 1100MHz

The 256-P2-N515-AX model costs $345 has a core clock of 445 MHz and a memory clock of 1070MHz (less MHz for more money)

The 256-P2-N517-AX model costs $369 has a core clock of 470MHz and a memory clock of 1100MHz (more MHz for more cash, well that is slightly more logical)

The 256-P2-N518 model costs $399 has a core clock of 445MHz and a memory clock of 1070MHz (oh dear god less MHz for more money, MAKE UP YOUR MIND) - I will add that this one DOES come with a motherboard so perhaps they are just giving you a N515 with a "free" mobo.

I can see the logic behind selling OCed from the factory components at higher costs, since lots of people dont want to OC, fearing they might damage the equipment. I assume the AX models are the ones with the copper heatsinks since they are costing more. Are there any benchmarks that compare these 7800s? I wouldnt imagine much of a difference in performance. Is there any logic I am missing for the 4 different models for what seems like the same target market? The price difference isn't that much so I would imagine these are just cannabalizing each other's sales rather than providing that much differentiation.

Anyways I apologize if this has been covered before, but any additional insights anyone may have would be appreciated. I'm in the market for a card that'll be able to push 1680x1050 and had my eye on a 7800GT until my mind was warped by several different 7800GTs

I didn't go through each of your links simply because I have been there and done that (for the past month) in searching for the card that I would get for my next build. Unless you must have the absolute best that nvida has to offer get the 7800gtx ko. If you can handle a 3 to 8% drop in frame rates below the gtx go with the evga gt co. A good gtx is gonna bring $469 + BF2, evga 7800gtx is $459. I just bought a evga gt co for $369 shipped. On the upside I get a $25 rebate + COD2 to cut into my final cost...

My take, the gt co is gonna do a fine job of competing with the sales of the gtx (price performance) for those that shop around. Here is a link, look at the benchies comparing the various 7800 cards. The gt co does exceptional well...........evga gt co

The spread between the 2 is gonna be near the $90-$100 mark. For me the 7800 gt wasn't really an option considering what the gt co provides and its price performance.

Good luck!!!!!!!
