After doing some research on major motherboard makers websites, it appears that only socket 940 motherboards are available, which pushes the cost of building a 4 way server through the roof. The opteron 165 is ~$320, the 265 is over double that cost, at $710.
Now im aware that the ONLY difference between these is supposedly some burned in firmware that allows dual cpu operation. But im also aware that Intel claimed you cant run dual celerons either back in the day, which many of us did.
At this point its almost more feasible to build 2 opteron 165 based servers over a single dual core 940.
