PS. Raiden III and IV for Steam (PC) are on sale as digital downloads (game code) for like $2-3 right now on Newegg. Also a River City game, if you're a fan. All three were around $10, and then I saw these controllers for $10 + ship that work with PC / Windows 10, so I bought a bunch.

By "hideous", are you referring strictly to looks, or to the decidedly mixed reviews, among the different colors?

I just hope it's usable. I don't generally "abuse" my controllers, like some people, so it seems unlikely that the triggers, for example, are just going to break off on me like some reviews said.

Just hoping to get some PC gaming in, finally. I'm looking forward to the PC versions of Raiden.
 
When it comes to controllers, I've always found "You get what you pay for" to generally be pretty accurate. Or at least "Buyer Beware". I've had a variety of cheap controllers over the years. It's not just the reliability aspect, the feel and precision of the cheap controllers are usually horrible too. I get it's $10, but you can get the XBox One S controller new for $39. Those things are build like tanks, work with Windows 10 out of the box, and the range on Bluetooth is fantastic. My original XBox One controller is almost two years old now but picked up an XBox One S controller because of the Bluetooth support.

Just something to consider.
 
I just got mine, and got finished trying out those three games I mentioned. Raiden III can't seem to use the XBOne controller, Raiden IV can, and it works wonderfully. River City Athletics also uses it, but I got my ass kicked the first time though the qualifying level. A bit harder than the NES River City game, or perhaps, I'm just getting older. The gameplay is similar, yet different. (The first level, and I imagine, most of the others, are actually a race as well.)

Overall, I'm pretty happy with it for $10 + ship. Glad I got a few.

Edit: I've used MUCH worse controllers, back in the PSX / PS2 days. This one does seem fairly "precision". Then again, I was only moving my ship with the left analog pad in Raiden IV, and not actually trying to aim a FPS. Maybe your results will differ.
 
It seems that my Ryzen 5 1600 PC no longer goes into monitor sleep mode after plugging in this XBOne controller? I noticed that in Device Manager, there is an XBox Controller section, and then there is a "Allow Windows to turn off power to this device" (checked), and "Allow this device to wake the PC from sleep" (checked).

Could either of those settings contribute to my PC no longer going into monitor sleep mode?

I'd bet the second one is the issue. A cheap controller like this might be sending data constantly. Did you try unchecking that?
 
It might have been one of the three games I played during that session too. I unchecked those two things in Device Manager, and it still didn't sleep. I rebooted (without playing any of the games), and it seemed back to normal. So it may have been the game's fault, and not the controller. IDK.

Edit: Seems like the issue is the controller? I unplugged it, and the monitor started sleeping again.

Not sure I like the D-pad on the smaller Sidekick models. Other than that, they're sort of OK. Not great. Probably worth $11 though.
 
Just a FYI - when you first plug one of these controllers in, they have a headset jack, and Windows 10 will automagically set your default sound device to the headset jack. As will Skype, if it's running at the time.

You get what you pay for is very, very true. People don't realize how crappy these knockoff controllers are. I participate in competitive robotics, and we've characterized common USB controllers and looked at things like how well the analog to digital converter works for each stick. A 'standard' actually from Microsoft xbox controller is actually quite good, with 256 steps from full front to back. These cheap ones came in as low as 64 steps from front to back. In game terms that's pretty horrible.
