mmmmm...artifically flavored roast beef ....yummy

Update: I was on a car trip years ago with some friends who stopped at an Arby's, I was starving but really wanted to go to a sub sandwhich place but they wanted Arby's so I got the beef sandwhich and opened up the foil wrap and picked it up and a big bug came crawling out and ran across the table. It was huge like 2 inches long and had a 1000 legs, I almost threw up. That was the last time I ate at Arby's.

Keep in mind, that an Arby's RB sandwich is just a roll with two lunchmeat style slices of "meat" inbetween.

These deals keep lessening in value. I remember it used to be 5 for $5. Then it went to 5 for $5.55. Just over the summer it was 5 for $5.95. Now its down to a measly 4 for $5. :(

Is Arby's even real meat? Or is it some sort of "special meat" like the Taco bell meat in their tacos?

Ordered 4 for $5 last weekend, they used about the same amount of "meat" on the 4 as I`ve seen on 2 sandwiches. They must use a different standard when the "4 for $5" key is rang-up.
What a rip..............

Any former or current Arby's employees out there?
Someone step up to the plate and answer this for me.

I heard that their "roast beef" comes in a can and comes out of the can
like cranberry sauce . . . . <sucking sound> . . . <plop>!! And then it is sliced up,
like regular luncheon meat. Is this true?!!? :Q

If so, that's pretty friggin sick!!

I was going to say the same thing. If memory serves, this is how it went... Amazing their increase exceed inflation considerably (true inflation was ~3% the last upteen years)

2002: 4 for $5.00 = $1.25 ea ( 5.0% increase over previous year)
2001: 5 for $5.95 = $1.19 ea ( 7.2% increase)
2000: 5 for $5.55 = $1.11 ea (10.0% increase)
1999: 5 for $5.00 = $1.00 ea (11.1% increase)
1998: 5 for $4.50 = $0.90 ea (12.5% increase)
1997: 5 for $4.00 = $0.80 ea

And before 1997 I think it was 5/$4 for quite a long time.

And the sad thing is, at least where I live, I have received the absolute WORST service I've EVER gotten from a fast food location in my LIFE from one of there stores, not once, but TWICE after a 2 year hiatus from going there. [I won't go into the whole story, but it showed they can't add ANY numbers/make change, have no accounting of length of time, and like to wipe their runny, cold-infested nose with their bare hands multiple times, all while I waited 15 minutes AS THE ONLY ONE IN THE STORE AT 8 PM for my food.] Nope, NEVER again. Make McDonalds look like a $20 a plate restauraunt.

I've gotten the 5 for $5 deal all over the DFW metroplex lately. It's still going on at all the ones I hit.

And whoever said that they use less meat in the sandwiches when it's 5 for $5 -- I've noticed that too. They are kinda light, aren't they? I'd love to compare that sometime. Have someone go in and get a single roast beef sandwich and then have someone else come in and order the 5 for $5 after the single one has already been delivered. Then whip out a scale and weigh them right there on the counter. I think it would be kinda funny.

Potato cakes rule!! :)

Acme

EDIT -- Looks like me and Jon had the same idea... :)

I think you are reading the ad wrong:

they are advertising 4 roast beet sandwiches for $5, not roast beef.;)

That's why they're smaller, beets cost more than beef.

Me too. Don't forget the Horsey & Arby's Sauce! :)

Anyways, here in New Orleans, they're still doing 5 for $5.95

You know what's even better than the regular old RB sandwiches? The Chicken Caesar Market Fresh sandwich. That thing kicks ass!

I heard the meat is liquified or something when it arrives to the Arby's... Yuck. It still tastes good though.

You ate 5 arby's sandwiches at once? That may be the anandtech record. Anyone here more than 5 sandwiches at once? 2000 calories and only like 80 grams of fat!
