4 9700 pro chips on a single board was badass, but 16 9700 pro is pure lust

Awesome for workstations where the expense will be quite reasonable (compared with the pro stuff it will be competing with).

Think we'll ever see a 9700Pro Maxx? At least ATI won't have to work around anything to implement it.

What's an NV30?

It's hard to get excited about supercomputers and/or large-scale visualization systems that use commercial off-the-shelf components.

That IS the trend - and quite exciting to me. Imagine scrapping a multimillion dollar render farm for a "few" 9700s (and getting better results with the Radeons).

This trend is the reason why the Japanese are making the rest of the world look like idiots when it comes to supercomputers.

Adul:The 9700 architecture scales up to 256 units. We've barley tapped the power of SMR (Symetric multi rendering. Is that even an acronym??). Heh.

Krhm, did you say 16 R300 chips... I mean 16... I mean... I... WOW!

So, what do I need? Besides:

-AGP (MOTHEROFALL)PRO slot
-1 Nuclear power station as PSU
-Case the size of... well... Godzilla
-Better air conditioning (read: Freezer room).
-Some (more)money

I mean... anybody know what that thingy will cost???

Damn... can't breath :D

It'll cost how ever much they think you'll pay. Simple market economics.

Correction:This setup would probably take about 150 watts. A seperate ATX powersupply would probably suffice.

Correction:You wouldn't need a godzilla case, as you could probably design it to be a little bit bigger than the Voodoo5 6000.

Now, just imagine an AIW version of the 256 Radeon setup with Ultra speed MPEG-2 compression! :Q
