Awesome for workstations where the expense will be quite reasonable (compared with the pro stuff it will be competing with).

It's hard to get excited about supercomputers and/or large-scale visualization systems that use commercial off-the-shelf components.

That IS the trend - and quite exciting to me. Imagine scrapping a multimillion dollar render farm for a "few" 9700s (and getting better results with the Radeons).

Correction:This setup would probably take about 150 watts. A seperate ATX powersupply would probably suffice.

Correction:You wouldn't need a godzilla case, as you could probably design it to be a little bit bigger than the Voodoo5 6000.
