I just got a ViewSonic VX2235wm and have a 8800gts.
I can't find any scaling or aspect options in the monitors OSD and i've tried all the scaling options in the Nvidia control panel under flat panel scaling but no matter which I choose 4:3 games wont display properly.
If I use the "use nvidia scaling with fixed aspect ratio" option it leaves my desktop running 1600 wide but squishes it vertically and if I play a game at 1280x960 or any other 4:3 res then it simply stretches it across the screen the same as if it's using the monitors scaling.
"Use nvidia scaling" displays the desktop in the correct aspect although a bit blurry and in a game it simply stretches it across the wide screen like previously.
And the "do not scale" option displays the game running smaller in the center of the screen but it's still in a widescreen aspect ratio instead of 4:3.
Is there no way I can run a game in a 4:3 aspect so that it fills the screen vertically but just has the bars on each side? Just like if you set a wide screen tv to a 4:3 aspect?
