The Shuttle KT266A board has 4 slots if I remember correctly. I really would like 1GB RAM on my next build. Would it be wise to use (4) 256MB PC2100 or should I just put up some extra cash and get (2) 512MB PC2100? Would there be any difference?

10x128MB sticks or 20x64MB sticks :p

I would go with 2x512MB since RAM is so dirt cheap.

Crucial should have some 512MB sticks around Jan-Feb. But there are other companies that make them now.

I say you buy 2 212mb Corsair ram from Newegg.Com. Just as good as Crucial if not better.

I would say 2x512Mb sticks because you can always add two more later. You will be wasting money later if you are replacing. Unfortunately, there are always drawbacks. A chain is as weak as its weakest link. Same with memory, memory is as slow as its slowest chip. I think you are more likely to get sticks that will not overclock as well. That seems to be how it is with 512Mb sticks of RAM.
