barrett-jackson car auction. ive been watching it all day. anyone know anything about the "general motors parade of progress tour bus"?

well one of the 12 every made (the one sold was a 1953 model) just sold for 4.1 million dollars. yes $4,100,000. they called it the general motors futurliner-parade of progress.

heres a pic

history video--ignore the "purchase this dvd on restoration" at the end. i put it on here solely for a little background. this thing is MONSTER when i saw it on TV.

anyone have dream cars theyd like to own? new or old? sorry if this is a half-way repost of an old thread or something.. but this one involves the barrett-jackson auction in arizona 😉.

i have so many dream cars i wont put pics. a 1930 duesenberg SJ, 2006 aston martin DB9 (hard top not conv), 1970 boss 429 mustang, 1966 GTO... list goes on.

Was that auctioned off again, or did this happen months ago? I remember reading about this before - someone actually posted pics of the guy driving it down a highway. :Q

The position of the door is interesting and makes me wonder what the interior looks like.

probably last years auction (jan 2006) bc the next one is jan this year. but its a rerun. forgive me for saying IT JUST SOLD lol

Interior

One of 12 built by GM, a self-contained display and transport vehicle created by the GM design staff under Harley Earl's direction. Opening side, lighting, retractable stage, distinctive center "cupola" cockpit driving position and dual wheel front axle. Used in the "Parade of Progress" touring exhibit created by "Boss" Kettering that complemented the GM "Motoramas" from 1940 through 1956. One of only three survivors restored in their original "Parade of Progress" configuration (the others are in long term ownership by NATMUS and Peter Pan Bus Lines), this Futurliner is fully functional and has toured Canada in corporate promotions. Recently returned to its original "Parade of Progress" configuration and colors. Powered by a 400ci GM truck engine and fully equipped including an onboard motor-generator and updated air conditioning for the driver's compartment. A matchless symbol of the American auto industry at the height of its power and influence.

That thing is so badass.

My thoughts, exactly, but then again, I have odd taste. 😉

It kind of reminds me of the "art deco" era of the locomotive, which I truely loved.

Since you asked me about dream cars .... any time/price.

I want a GMC Crew Cab with an 8 foot bed. Interior trim level atleast mid-level. Not sure if I'd care for leather. Engine size is also of little oncern to me. But that's what I want. And maybe a Civic when I'm not using my truck for what it is intended.....work and road trips.
