3U rack

Easy to find out - just look at the pix of some 3U cases on Newegg, etc. Offhand I think it will work but may take a non standard PSU... But you will find that the 3U cases cost significantly more than the 4U (can get some 4U for around $70. new) - I guess the market isn't as big for them as most want to be able to use a standard size PSU.
