3TB Seagate backup on Windows 7

I found these 2 things do not work well together. Googled for a solution and I am not sure what really works. Can someone lead me to a (hopefully simple) solution so I can get my backup to work. I am not using it as a working drive, purely as a backup.

This is a copy and paste of someone else's description of the problem.

Windows 7 Backup & Restore System images higher than 2.1TB are not supported by Microsoft.
This is because Microsoft only supports drives that are set to use 512 byte blocks as destinations for backups.
Larger than 2.1TB drives are however compatible with all other Windows functionalities. Refer to Seagate and Microsoft Knowledge bases. The backup problem is causing problems for lots of users who unwittingly purchase larger drives than 2.1TBs solely for use with Windows 7 Backup and Restore which is used widely.

I know there are work arounds, but I was hoping someone here could explain the work around a little better. Apparently the drive I have is set up for 4K blocks and Windows 7 is looking for 512 byte blocks. I can access the drive no problem, but can't back up to it.

I guess another question would be, is there back up software out there so I can back up my computer without using Windows back up?
