3tb partition recommended for Windows?

I plan on installing windows 8 into my 3tb hard drive and a random linux distro into my 500 gb hard drive. Do you recommend that use the whole 3tb for the windows OS or just make separate 2tb/1tb or 1tb/2tb partitions for the OS/Storage? I read somewhere that having using a whole 3tb partition will make things really hard when you need to re-install windows and using a smaller partition for re-installation will make moving data easier.

I know this question is very dumb but I don't want to regret using my entire 3tb hard drive for the Windows OS one day in the future if I need to re install it. So I thought I might as well ask before I start my installation!

I'd make separate partitions for OS and storage. It doesn't make a performance difference, but as you correctly note it makes it easier to reinstall the OS should the need ever arise.

Thank you!
Do you think the OS/Storage be 1tb/2tb or 2tb/1tb?

I'd do 500gb/2.5tb. 500gb should be way more than enough for the O/S/programs/slush storage unless you go nuts installing stuff.

I just looked at the total amount of data for my program files and it's about 60gb. I guess I should make a temporary 500gb OS partition until I can get a SSD than just delete/merge the OS partition after I get an SSD one day.

But then that might be too much work...

If you're going to get a SSD, make the OS partition even smaller. It will save you trouble later if the OS partition is small enough to fit on an SSD (I'm assuming you already have a size in mind).

I tend to install games in a separate folder because I can simply copy probably 90% of that folder structure to a new setup without needing to reinstall anything, whereas only about 10% of normal apps can simply be copied and re-used in such a fashion.

Speaking of which, I ought to include a few of those app folders in my setup, some of them date back ten years :)
