3rd week into graduate school....Im sleepy and exhausted and I'm turning to energy drinks to get me through the day. This reminds me a lot of undergrad, except now, I have a full time job, and I have to make time for my school work.

Just a weak rant :(

Exercise, take multivitamins, and drink plenty of water. That will give you more energy than those drinks.

Good luck!

That is why graduate students at most universities are barred from working more than 20 hours per week (unenforced school policies) and why graduate students usually only take 2-3 classes per semester.

Long four years? College is awesome. I spent freshman year stressed out about the amount of work I had, I thought I couldn't do things because I had homework. Looking back on it though, I really wasn't that busy. Somehow, I got more work in my last two years of college, spent less time doing it, and did really well anyway.

Im only taking 3 classes this semester. One of the classes is a 0 credit class (Intro. to Graduate Rsearch) which is a required class during your first semester of graduate school. Despite being a 0 credit class, there is a substantial amount of work involved. Im taking that class along with two 3 credit classes. In the future, I will only be taking two classes per semester; I just wanted to knock out 6 credits this semester .

Good luck!

I'd like to exercise more, but I just dont have time. I pay $60 per month for my gym membership and Im lucky if I can make it to the gym a few times a month.

Full time job + part time graduate school + gf.........I have little time to workout lately.

No free gym at the school? That sucks. I've used that excuse before, not having enough time. But depending on what hours your gym is open, there's almost always time to go early in the morning or at night. It may seem hard, but I think you'll be glad you did.

Or even better, now that the weather is starting to cool down, get a nice pair of running shoes and go for an early morning or late night run

tell the GF that you need to focus on studies and spend tmie with her on the weekends. if she questions if you are not important say the following:

tell her that your classwork has to be done or you are out - they don't love and care for your or can compromise
tell her that work is what you are doing to get paid and survive - they won't love you and compromise to pay you more at less hours per week
tell her that she is the only one you love and care - and only she can understand how this is draining you, and compromise with you...because only she loves you

she can't say no to that :D (and for those who ask - yes i just totally made this up on the spot)

I plan on jumping into grad school sooner or later...all the while keeping my full time job. My guess is I will only take 1-2 classes/semester max.

I will refrain from mocking you OP, but from my own (past and current) experiences of working full-time and doing a graduate degree (currently 1/2 done with an MBA), I will say you will get used to juggling the workload. To be honest it is strange during breaks to suddenly have a lot of free time. That said, you definitely have to prioritize your activities and be diligent with your allocation of time.

full time work, full time grad is very very very difficult. Good luck! Even part time grad school with full time work is very taxing on the body.

Well, Im trying to get into the habit of getting all of my work done during the week so that I have my weekends free to relax. 1st week of school, I had a lot of work to do during the weekend and it was horrible. I didnt feel like I even had a weekend. Last week, I got everything finished by Friday afternoon and I had the entire weekend to just relax; that felt great. Im trying to have everything done by Thursdays.

I love energy drinks, Taco Bell, and procrastinating my research papers till the last possible moment. That is the beauty of undergrad and grad school - if you embrace and enjoy it then it will make things easier and funnier!

Don't forget to drink water and workout on top of the energy drinks and Taco Bell, you can sleep when your dead but you can't get better Abs when your six feet under!
