3rd person games: PC or console?

This question may have some biased answers since I'm posting in in PC gaming, but here goes:

For a 3rd person action game such as GTA IV, Mafia II, Kayne & Lynch, etc would you prefer to play on a PC or a console? From my perspective there are pros and cons to both sides.

In general I find that graphics are better on the PC, even when not maxed out, and for shooting I prefer keyboard/mouse controls. On the other hand with a console version (in general) you don't need to worry about performance issues due to a shitty port job, and I find a controller better for driving sequences.

So given the choice, which do you prefer?

I personally prefer consoles but most I'd assume you'd get a lot of responses saying that you can use a 360 controller for a "best of both worlds" experience on the PC.

for third person views, I think I'd prefer the feel of using a joystick. It really depends, though - for Fallout 3 I would definitely use the KB+M over a controller, but for something more "platformy" (for example, Uncharted-style play) I would rather use the controller.

Keyboard and mouse all the way, I'm afraid to say.

I have played games like GTA3, GTA4, GTA:SA, The Witcher and even LoTRO exclusively with KB+M and could not envisage playing them with a controller.

Conversely I am currently playing The Last Remnant (PC) with my cordless Logitech Rumblepad 2 (PS2-styled controller) and finding it rather difficult to move plus coordinate the camera at the same time. Combat-wise, it feels very much like FF7 did when I borrowed my mates PS1 for a week so the gamepad feels more natural (and satisfying).

I get what you mean. Even though I find thumbstick's to be less accurate than a mouse there is just something that feels *right* about playing third person action games using a controller. I believe uncharted (and GTA as well), have lock on systems, so accuracy is not such a big issue. Mafia II, and K&L on the other hand do not have lock on systems.

I'm biased, sure, but definitely prefer keyboard & mouse for 1st and 3rd person shooters. And I'm a big fan of the GTA series, driving is easy with the keyboard, using the up/down/left/right keys specifically.

The last remnant needs a few rebinds / tweaks so the game plays properly with keyboard and mouse.

After I redid the binds to get a more traditional 3rd person style controller scheme, it became a lot easier to use than a controller IMO.

I only prefer controller for fighting games and racing games. For everything else, keyboard/mouse is much better.

Generally speaking, the PC. But that really is less of a control issue or anything else inherent in the platform, and more the fact that I don't have to wrest control of the TV from my wife to play on my PC.

Same; at least when I am having a 4 hour gaming session on my PC my GF still has access to the TV.

3rd person controls identically to 1st person if done properly and KBM should be superior. However, there are examples of when 3rd person has been given purposefully difficult controls that generally work better on console, such as the resident evil games.

In general, the only difference between 3rd person and 1st person is where the camera is situated.

Yeah, I would suck in max pain with my 360 pad, But im much better in resident evil 5 with it than a M+KB
