Ive always used the wired controllers and never had a problem, i dont even use the wires to the farthest range since i dont like playing that far from the TV

I have wireless PS2 controllers from Future Shop. Pretty handy and no wires to worry about (tangled up, people tripping over them when they walk by, etc)

But if you have no reason to get them, then I'd just stick with wired controllers

Edit: Mine are Pemican controllers or something. I like them more than the normal controllers

i picked up a gamestop controller
the black and white buttons are set up like the r1 and l1 buttons on a ps controller which is very comfortable and natural

Ok, cool thanks. I am buying this as a gift so I am not sure if they are worried about wire clutter or not. Also, are those 2.4 ghz or 900mhz controllers?

3rd Party = absolute crap. That wasn't necessarily the case with other systems and controllers I've used in the past but all the 3rd party ones for the XBox absolutely suck. (Maybe the wireless Logitech one is good, I've never used it, but everything else just sucks)

I have a datel H2 wireless controller that I got on best buy ( it was on sale for 24.99 plus i had a 10% coupon), and I'm very impressed with it, very good wirless signal and works like the original xbox controller.

If you wanna get a wireless controller get it from a Best Buy, Circuit City, or another store instead of online so its easy to return if you dont like it. Also, get one that looks exactly like the Microsoft controller, the ones with modified design, like the mad catz, are usually crappy (logitech is the exception).

I've tried wired Madcatz, wireless Logitech...and some wireless brand that I don't recall (the controller was huge and had two fans to cool your hands; can't be too many of those out there).

Both wireless were good, with the Logitech being the better of the two. I still like the feel of wired better, and the trigger buttons on the Logitech are uber-sensitive, but they're both lightyears ahead of the madcatz (which uber-sucked).

3rd-party ones simply suck ass compared to the genuine Xbox-S model. Cawchy - read your sig. ;) Hit up EB or your local pawn shop and score some genuine ones at a discount.

Thats what I might do then. I am buying it as a gift for my friend so I wanted a bill so he could return it if he gets like 5 xbox controllers as presents.

I bought two Hip Gear Xbox controllers for half the cost of one MS controller a while back. They're fine; the feel is a tiny bit looser in analog control, the buttons on the face feel more sunken in and thus marginally harder to depress, and the triggers are actually better.

I slightly prefer the MS controls probably just because that's what I'm used to.

The Pelican Eclipse Wireless controllers are great (construction & performance). I've been using one for years.

I don't use any MS controllers. I have one by Hip Gear that is my favorite and works great. My othe rone is something that was on sale at Best Buy last week that glows when turned on and that works fine too. I wouldn't pay extra for an actual Microsoft Controller for any reason.

I have a logitech wireless PS2 controller, and I like it more than my first party wired controller, not just because of the wireless, but just the way it feels is solid.

Logitech is indeed good, but expensive. I've played with the Logitech and Pelican wireless and they're both head and shoulders above the rest in the wireless dept. I have the Pelican b/c the Logitech product is waaay overpriced--especially w/ Pelican Eclipse competition in the market.

I recommend getting a feel for the controls at a store. Then make a final decision.
