3rd party controller SATA HD Installation.

Hey guys I just got a new SATA hard drive. I am new to SATA, I've only used IDE in the past.
So it seems I need to install these 3rd party controllers to install windows, or it will not see the hard drive at all.

I do not have a floppy drive.
is there any way I can do this with a CD-rom or USB storage device? or any other way?

Thanks

oops meant to put this topic under OS, my apologies.

It depends on which version of Windows that you are using. If a x32, it should be able to see the SATAs before the drivers are installed, using those native in Windows. I'm not certain, but I think that you would need to use a floppy with XP SP1 also.

You have three choices:

1) In your motherboard BIOS, set the SATA controller for IDE emulation. Most motherboards offer this option. It requires no special SATA drivers.

2) Temporarily or permanently attach a floppy drive.

3) Create a new XP Install CD, with the 3rd-party drivers slipstreamed, as described in this article.

Also, you can install the AHCI (native SATA) drivers after installing XP under emulation. You can then turn off emulation mode and use SATA natively.

my motherboard is an abit ax8..
the bios offers nothing in regards to sata functions...

anyhow Im gonna try to get a floppy and do this

damn it all my old floppy disks seem to be bad... I guess I will have to buy new ones... I never thought I would ever buy a floppy disk again.

Ok so I got the 3rd party controllers, I got windows to see the Hard drive.
Now when I go through the setup process, it sees the HD, it asks me to install on which partition.

Whether I partition the drive or attempt to format the whole thing, it gets stuck at the format screen at 0%

Has anyone here seen this before? What could be causing it? the HD is a 160 GB Seagate SATA 300.

I am lost. is it the HD or the Motherboard? Help!

Thank you and Happy New Year!
