I sold a computer to this guy on ebay. i have 100% feedback, over 150 rating.. i sent him my computer, USPS damages it, he doesnt pay for insurance, which is optional

the damage was minimal. we talked it out, he said it was fine. he then left positive feedback for me, and i did the same to him.
1 week later i get an e-mail from him

he says he wants a refund now. and he wants me to pay for the shipping back to me. like give him shipping labels... is this unfair... i sold him a computer, it works, and now hes just hassling me.

and i just dont want to deal with him... what should i do?

UPDATE - UPDATE - UPDATE - UPDATE - UPDATE - UPDATE -
yeah so i never responded to the e-mail i recieved at like 12 am last night. so i woke up this morning and got another e-mail beofre i got a chance to reply. and i paste...

Hey-

The computer was packed up today and sent back to you. I forgot to take out the additional RAM that I put in, so I will need two sticks back or re-imbursement for them. I went to the Egg place you recommended for pricing. I sent the computer the same way you did (USPS), but with much better packing. When you add to $638 I paid you the cost of two sticks of RAM, the new packaging materials, not to mention all the time I have spent on this, well- it was an expensive waste of time for me. Monetetarily, I will need to cost of the computer and shipping I paid- plus my shipping costs refunded. I can invoice you via Pay Pal, or you can just send me a payment via Pay Pal. This will need to happen soon, however. As noted, I will also need the two new sticks of RAM returned.

Thanks-
Bob

so im like wok the fok.. hes already sent it back to me.. im about to just keep the computer and the new ram... thanks for the upgrade?

i didnt even agree to a refund, and he ships it and wants me to pay for the shipping both ways.

UPDATE # 2
____________
so i just got back from lunch with my gf,
and i havnt replied to the first 2 e-mails.
i just got the 3rd

The final for the refund is as follows. I paid 638.54 originally plus 43.20 for shipping it back to you (plus insurance). This comes to $681.74. If you opt to keep the two sticks of additional RAM, then you would need to add $87.49 to the total. The computer should arrive no latter then Saturday, thus I would expect payment no latter then Saturday as well. I certainly did everything I could on my end, but the operating system issue was the final straw for me. My hope is that we can peacefully resolve this matter, as you seem like a nice guy. An invoice will follow.

Thanks-
Bob

____________

.... the computer was 588.54, and he says he paid 638.54. if i was goign to refund no way i would refund original 50 bucks to ship, let alone the aditiona 43.20 he shipped for it...

what a noob cake.

Tell him to kiss off. This is exactly why e-bay sucks. He's obviously stupid since he didn't get insurance on a COMPUTER!

Sounds like buyers remorse

dont do it....unless your auction was not specific enough...

always make sure you put a return policy on your items and make sure it is specific...always make sure to say items are sold as-is and buyer is ALWAYS responsible for shipping, both ways in case of return...unless you provide free ship there...in which case u need to specify return shipment should be paid by the buyer...

i hope you dont get screwed 🙂

tell him the deal is closed you said it was working and you did not pay for insurance, so i did everything I have to do as a seller to you. I sld my alienware desktop and 1 month later tehy wanted a refund b/c it stop booting into windows it jsut sat at the bios splash screen. but i jsut ingnored his emails.

Check jadinolf's feedback.

I give buyers the option. 40% of them choose insurance. My Feedback is 1644 - 100% positive.

If I buy something from a store, and it arrives damaged, the store will take care of the cost.
You assume the same liability to the majority of ebayers who treat e-bay as any other e-commence site.
In this scenario you are right, but not paying for insurance is asking to get reamed in the ass at some point.

i always insure my packages that i send, regardless of whether the buyer purchased insurance or not.

it's the seller's responsibility to get the package in good shape to the buyer and if not, the seller is responsible. ebay's 'insurance' bs is idiotic.

This is why I stopped using eBay. A guy won my auction($250). I shipped it out, he received it, we both left each other positive feedback. Everybody was happy. Two months later, the guy files a Paypal claim saying he never received the item. I counter, giving Paypal my tracking information (UPS). The buyer responds with "the box was empty". Paypal rules in the buyer's favor. My paypal account was empty so Paypal took the money from my checkbook, withdrawing the account $150. Not only did I get screwed out of $250, I got charged a $35 overdraft fee.

its just a dent on the top of the computer, would he really win???, i mean, what would he file ? that i didnt send it , or what?

i still have the little usps green confirmation slip for times like this

Here's what you do. Explain the reasons why you aren't going to accept a return at this point. Do not insult or use any negative language in this e-mail as it will further anger him and make the situation a lot less manageable. Use the fact that he did not buy insurance when he had the option too, also use the fact that you both agreed it was okay, and ALWAYS have a return policy stated just for this very reason. Just explain to him in a simple manner and everything should be okay, if not, just ignore his ignorant ass.

You shipped by UPS. The shipping weight should at least be on the label (and possibly on the website tracking).

Someone returned a laptop to me claiming that the item was defective, but kept all the software and manuals. The weight of the package was off by 0.5 pounds, and I told him that, and he miraculously found the software/manuals package which must have slipped out of the box without his knowledge!

So, the evil buyer could say "he shipped me a pile of magazines".

I always put all sales final in my auctions. I always use US Priority Mail w/ Confirmation as well. I only buy insurance for $100+ items.
