Ah...now ain't that a cryin shame?

A conservative Florida radio host who spoke out against Covid-19 vaccines died after a weekslong fight with the virus, marking the third radio personality to die from coronavirus who publicly rejected vaccines.

When Florida’s Democratic Agriculture Commissioner Nikki Fried in July urged people to get vaccines on Twitter by saying the “greatest generation had to defeat the Nazis to preserve our way of life, you’re only being asked to get a shot. So be a patriot,” Bernier replied on the platform: “Should say, ‘Now the US Government is acting like Nazi's. Get the shot!’”

On Aug. 4, another Florida conservative radio host who had criticized the coronavirus vaccine, Dick Farrel, died from Covid-19 complications. Farrel, whose given name was Farrel Austin Levitt, had worked at several radio stations in Florida, including WIOD in Miami and WPBR in Palm Beach, and had served as a fill-in anchor on Newsmax.

He had strongly condemned the coronavirus vaccine, posting on Facebook on July 3, “why take a vax promoted by people who lied 2u all along about masks, where the virus came from and the death toll?” He also criticized Anthony Fauci, the nation’s top infection disease doctor, calling him a “power tripping lying freak,” according to The Washington Post, which reported on his death.

Last week, Phil Valentine, a 62-year-old conservative radio host in Nashville, Tenn., who had questioned the necessity of vaccines, also died from the virus. Valentine, the son of former six-term Rep. Tim Valentine (D-N.C.), had a nationally syndicated show.

“The people who instinctively believe that the government is the solution to everything are already talking vaccination mandates. This should be a personal choice,” he wrote on his blog in December. “I’m not an anti-vaxxer. I’m just using common sense.”

I know it's wrong to cheer the deaths of Americans...but fucking fuck...they brought it on themselves...and worse, they encouraged other people to do the same.

Not only was this almost entirely preventable these people are sucking up resources that could have been used on non-COVID patients, in some cases condemning them to death.
Yeah, James Carville was interviewed last week and he said if he had a heart attack or got into a car wreck that he would probably die
as there are no hospital beds open where he lives (Louisiana) due to all the beds filled with COVID-19 patients.

And now the state is getting slammed with a very powerful hurricane. Seems like an even bigger disaster in the making since there are going to be power, staffing, and supply problems beyond what they've already got to deal with. A lot of deaths seems pretty possible.

Multiple stories of this happening. And I can guarantee that if you do get a bed in a stressed and full hospital, you probably aren't getting the same quality of care as you would if all the Covidiots weren't in there.

People like these broadcasters that spread their misinformation, almost definitely killing many, are like a virus themselves.

I read somewhere yesterday that the real casualties here are middle management of the right wing media ecosystem. The top players like Rupert Murdoch and the Fox News hosts are all vaccinated because they know they are peddling bullshit. Small time radio hosts like this guy though are being scammed just like the regular guy.

Have to admit I was disappointed to read that Eric Clapton (someone I've hated since his "Enoch was right" tirade), despite his public anti-vaxx statements and songs, is himself vaccinated.

Not only that, but anti-sematic, anti-vax and COVID denying conspiracy guru and fake CIA agent Robert David Steele has died of COVID-19.

You'll have trouble getting much info about it. His only contacts were other conspiracy whackos.

It's amazing how they are so committed to owning the libs that conservatives have decided to inflict mass death on themselves just because it makes liberals mad.

I mean I guess we are owned by them killing themselves... I guess.

At least these people were "courageous" enough to not actually get the vaccine, while telling people not to do it.

Other tools like Tucker et al. tell people not to get it while they themselves have.

Personally at this point I am all for a public searchable database for vaccinations. No other info just yup this person is vaccinated.

Make a choice, live (or die) with the consequences.
If you're a 25 year old athlete in near perfect condition, being an antivaxer isn't all that risky. If you happen to be a 45 year old obese smoker, it's not the best position to take.

Pretty much agree, just sucks those assholes keep the virus circulating and likely cause it to mutate more rapidly.
I keep thinking we have had plenty of time and plenty of inventory to fully vaccinate 100% of the eligible people. Imagine how much better it would be if the spread was reduced by 85% or more.

The problem with infectious diseases is you make other people live or die with the consequences of your decision too.

The issue seems to be that being an anti-vaxxer has become associated with a type of conservative politics, and that type of politics is further correlated with being of a certain generation and hence age. Doesn't help that such types are often equally-resistant to other health advice, e.g. with regard to diet and exercise.

Hence all these right-wing media figures ending up hospitalised or worse. Just sad, as previous poster mentioned, that they are all middle-ranking people, and not necessarily even the most obnoxious of their kind. Those at the top have probably quietly had the jab.

See how fucking stupid that sounds?
