3rd antenna for wifi on a laptop

I'm currently waiting on my laptop to be built. I already spec'd it with the Bigfoot Networks Killer 1103. There's also an option to get a third antenna. Is this something that I should seriously consider? Would the benefits be that noticeable? I'm never more than 60 feet away from my router, and at that range I have two walls between me and the router. It's an older wireless-g router and I have no signal issues. I plan on upgrading to a dual-band something or other (not sure which one yet) to take advantage of the 5ghz band. Any suggestions on which router I should go with?

If I remember correctly when Anand did the comparison he was using the BFN 1102, and it didn't have the third antenna, and it still outperformed just about everything, right?

Sorry to dump all those questions in one thread. Thanks in advance for the help.

At that distance, evem withtwo walls in between you and the router I don't think a third antenna will make a difference. I have the same type of configuration in my home network, although my laptop is an off the shelf model (Lenovo G570). I have no signal problems. My router is a Linksys 160n. flashed with DD-WRT firmware, there are two other computers on the netwok plus a ROKU for video streaming. So you should be good to go as is. Just keep in mind, I do not use my laptop for gaming. just everday use. I do have the wifi on the laptop bridged to a wired ethernet port on my desktop (in the room 3 walls away) with no signal loss at all

how much does that 3rd antenna cost? its not going to make a huge difference, but it probably wont hurt either. but if its like a $50 option or something then fuck that.

The more antenna the more signal you have , its pretty simple. The problem with more antennas usually comes down to where to put them . RF is very site specific so we cannot tell you what will work best where you are. It is very trial and error.

third antenna, no
RP-SMA or U.FL connector so you can add a third antenna as needed

It was a $40 option. I opted not to go with it. $40 was too much for something that may or may not have any benefits for my specific use.

Thanks for confirming those thoughts! :)
