I just got a Sunbeam Core Contact Freezer, and struggled to install it for the past 2-3 hours. I applied some of the provided TX2 paste to my CPU, but then realized I'd have to take my mobo out of my case. I'm afraid I might have gotten some dust or something between the CPU and cooler, or that I might not have used enough paste.

My load temps (with the CCF fan on low) are peaking at 48C so far after half an hour of Orthos (333x9, 1.3125v in BIOS and 1.288v in CPU-Z, TJMax 85C). Idle temps are 20-25C. Is this normal for this cooler? Or do you think I might have messed something up?

Nothing wrong with those temps. You actually have more room for a higher overclock. On a core2 chip max voltage is 1.36 in bios. Max temp is 72.5c I believe. Check to make sure its the same on your chip but I'm pretty sure it is.

No it's 1.5v for 65nm chips, you're thinking of 45nm chips.
For the e21x0 series max temp is 73.2C.

I'm currently testing 1.4125 in BIOS, 1.376 CPU-Z at 3.15GHz (seems to be stable so far, peaking at 54C). The weird thing is, 400x8 wasn't stable (would boot halfway and fail), but 400x7 was much LESS stable (didn't even post). How could that be possible? Wouldn't 400x7 be more stable, or at least no less stable, than 400x8?

Oh, and what do you mean by max temperature? TJMax is 85C for this chip, isn't it? Or do you just mean I should make sure I stay under 73.2? I seem to remember reading somewhere that getting within 20C of TJMax is when you should start to get worried about temps.

Try to keep it under 70. From what I've seen, stability starts getting really sketchy over 70C.

That doesn't sound too bad. Frostytech reviewed that cooler and at 150W load it runs 25C over room temp. Room temp is usually around 20C, so that would make 45C the expected temperature.

edit:
I guess 150W from an E2160 is unrealistic. The 85W column is probably a lot closer to what to expect.
