3gb r9 280 or 4gb 380?

But the 280 is cheaper and has 3gb, so which one should I get?

additional question: how are AMD drivers these days, are they on par with nvidia?

280 is based on GCN 1.0 with all its weakness today. 380 is based on GCN 1.2 and better suited for future games.

Doubt that will make a huge difference in performance. That 280X you linked is a MUCH better value and much faster than the 380. Also the 280X has more OC'ing headroom to boot. Add the $30-40 saving's I think it's a no brainer.

The only advantage of the 380 is power consumption. If you can power the 280X it's the better buy IMO.

I pick the 4gb 380. The 2gb 285 was basically right with the 3gb 280X.

The 4gb 380 should be just as quick as the 280X, and you'll have gcn 1.2.

For the price your after just buy a second hand R9 290 or 980 tops and suggest you spend the rest on a descent Gold 600W PSU..
