Yea, I don't see why not. We have a family plan with 3 other phones (2 Razr's and a Samsung). I had my first gen iPhone on the plan with all of them and they just added the $20/mo to my line.

I don't see why this time would be any different, the only thing that technically changed is the prices.

Normally family plans are 1 price for the first two lines, $9.99 for each additional. On our family plan, all the extra phones showed up as $9.99/mo, except my iPhone which was listed at $29.99. I expect with the new iPhone, that will just switch to $39.99/mo for my line on the family plan.

Well I just realized what A-GPS is, and that sucks. Having non verbal GPS in a car makes things a little more difficult. Even so, if TomTom(or whoever) does come out with a verbal GPS, will that be an extra charge?

I was looking at other phones that have full GPS already (Blackberry Curve), and it looks like there is a $9.99 fee for AT&T Navigator service. All combined, it's $100 a month for a damn phone regardless of which one it is.

Yea that is what I'm thinking is going to happen with the iPhone. At&t is going to come out with a navigation feature and charge their standard $9.99/mo fee.

I mean, what ARE the cheapest phone options for the iphone...a family plan (girlfriend would be on it too).

Well I call shens on the $80/mo fully plan. Tmobile is $70/mo for the basic 1000min family plan. Then if add unlimited SMS that is an extra $20. So you are sitting at $90/mo before taxes and surcharges.

But I'll give you the benefit of the doubt that you somehow swung that deal.

Uh oh.

Giz - People who sold their iPhone may NOT all be eligible for a subsidized phone

To those who sold their iPhone and AREN'T currently eligible for an upgrade, it may not be looking good. Hopefully AT&T can clarify this as I imagine there are going to be a whole lot of pissed off people.

I sold mine 2 months ago, but kept the iPhone data plan on my acct, and have been eligible for an upgrade for years.

tomtom likely will have an extra charge, but it should be worth it. it should be a cut above AT&T Navigator or whatever. having tomtom navigation and the tele atlas maps are the biggest cause for excitement, not just the concept of having GPS on the iphone.

oh, I swung it, and swung it hard!

there was a promo that went on during xmas a few years ago...that I had kept since then. 50 bucks a month for 1k minutes, then throw the 20 $ unlim txt/sms on , makes it 70, add 10 for surcharge and such...this is for both of our lines.

I should be picking up an Iphone tomorrow, for 100 bucks. Once I get one for myself, I will jailbreak it , hope it jailbreaks on 2.0, then get one for my GF....I have seen a few with cracked LCD Covers, which I may buy and replace myself...

quick question, does the IPhone use WIFI has a VOIP to call out of? Like my blackberry does...It helps when I am in a basement where wifi is present and have zero cell reception, but perfect wifi reception. Blackberry works wonders in that area.

And this will be possible on the 3g iPhone's hardware, and it's only a software issue? So they won't be releasing a new hardware set in 6 months that allows for full GPS? I just don't want to grab one now if they will require new hardware to get full GPS capability.

I don't see why there would be a hardware update. Apple is using A-GPS because it's superior, not because it's somehow inferior. A-GPS is full GPS.

Touche. But A-GPS doesn't tell me when to turn, or automatically update when I've taken a wrong turn (from what I've heard). Either way, I still want the phone. I would just be pissed if they came out with a new version right away.

That's not an A-GPS issue, that's solely a software issue. If someone wants to come out with a driving aid, the hardware can do it. There won't be any new revisions until at least a year out, at which point Apple will likely do a significant replacement of the CPU/GPU/WiFi components.

this time next year, iPhone 3.0, it'll finally have A2DP and more space. I don't see what more they can do to the CPU/GPU it already the most responsive cell phone I've used and GPU wise looks to be pretty good, Monkey Balls looked PSP quality. I don't see Apple putting TOO much new sh!t in the next release, they like to string people alone and make them upgrade every year to get a few new things :)

I simply cannot beleive that this new version of the iPhone does not have A2DP. I mean it is a freaking MUSIC device as much as it is a PHONE. How can it not have stereo BT support?!?!?!?!?!

By next year they can catch a full die shrink in order to clock up the CPU, replace the GPU with a more powerful variant (perhaps a PowerVR SGX), and add 802.11n support to the WiFi component. As it is the iPhone 3G has the same of the above components as the original.

I think I will start a little business. In Belgium the 8GB costs ?525 and the 16GB ?615, sim unlocked and without contract. Swisscom sells the 8GB for ?320 and the 16GB for ?380, without contract but sim locked (no big deal, it's already cracked). I plan to do a little Belgium-Switzerland-Belgium road trip, load up on Iphones, sim unlock them and sell them in Belgium with a nice profit

It seems to get shorter the more times you sync, but yes it takes a long time.

Do you guys have the latest firmware? I "early upgraded" my 1G firmware and it took forever and a day to backup & sync (multiple times)...however when I got the official 1G firmware it took like 2 seconds (not counting music sync).

I believe there is a new 3G firmware which gets rid of the yellow tint, and could alleviate the syncing problem also.

Mine was sitting inside my iTunes already. When i clicked restore, it already had the latest version which was newer than the one which came on my 3g iPhone.

Ugh. How could they not put A2DP on it?? I need to get a new cell phone plan, and was really tempted to get the new iphone. As for picture messaging and all that, is there any word on whether they are planning a software update to add those features?
