3G in 2 slots

I've been looking pre-assembled computers and many have 3G of ram but 2 slots.
Do they have a 1G and 2G stick?
Why not put 2G in each slot?

Yes! The 3G units come with the 2G and 1G sticks installed.

Cause that is 4G total. That 1G cost extra too.

It's particularly common in 32-bit OS systems.

It's not always 2 GB + 1 GB though.

Sometimes it's 2x1 GB + 2x512 MB.

They would only use that if the board has 4 slots. Most of the cheaper board are made with only 2 slots.
