I understand that Sprint is implementing the new 3G technology with their phones. my question is, does 3G apply to voice AND data? and if it applies to voice too, does that mean i'll have to change plans from my current one in order to take advantage of 3G?

Thanks

I haven't been keeping up with SPCS too much lately, but I think:

3G Voice and data? Yes.

Different plan? You can take advantage of 3G voice if your phone supports it without any change of your plan. I have seen 3G data plans based on bandwidth so you might have to change your plan to surf the web at 3G speeds. (not sure)

I think the 3G plans start at $49.99 and include 2 megs of data. Not quite worth it in my opinion.

You guys think I can negotiate my way into a cheaper 3G plan seeing as how I've had Sprint for nearly 2 years?

Nope. I've been with Sprint PCS since 1998 (since my older sis started working for them.) They show me no love...

Well, I'm definitely going to do some aggressive negotiating on this. I suppose I should go out and buy a phone first. I know that I can get in on the "retention" plans but I don't have the need for the extra minutes.

hmm..if that is true, and if the upgrades happened in my area (Hawaii), i should think about getting a new phone to take advantage of 3G. Currently, i have a SamSung 8500 and i get dropped calls like crazy...:disgust:
