3ds Max career

I wanted to learn 3ds Max more for game character creation.
Since i am very low on my budget, i wanted to ask if it is easy to find a work
using it and how much are the payments rating.

Also i know programming, web development and a lot of other weird stuff related to computers. I am not into arts, but i would learn it more for my dream of making AAA games. Since i know it is a lot of work, i want to ask how much time would i need to start being productive in creating game characters. I have heard zbrush is needed too. I already have it installed but never used.

Last thing is 3ds Max, for what is used? All types of variations are welcome!

Any ideas?

I have already modeled a home, but it is not that i was exactly asking what you do? Model.

I was meaning it is used in? Games, videos, films, clips...
Any ideas? Do you earn money for a living?

I'll offer a serious answer:

If you haven't already bought 3DS Max, learn using Blender. Blender is free, powerful, and plenty good for you to learn the basics. www.blender.org

As far as pay goes, the only experience I have is with places that let you post your model for people to buy. People purchase it, the posting website takes a commission, and you get paid. I have been involved in the buying of these models for an indie game I'm involved with.
 
Hey, folks. Our new friend, GSquadron, is posting from Albania so I suspect English isn't his first language, but I believe he's serious and trying to engage in a real conversation.

I'm an electronic design engineer, but when it comes to 3D rendering products like 3DS Max (and a host of other computer-related issues), I know what I don't know, and I know I can rely on those who know more about such things than I do, including and especially my friends on these forums.

Now, I'm asking you to give GSquadron the same kind of friendly welcome and good info I've come to expect from you folks for all these years. :thumbsup:

I have heard all kind of rude introductions in forums, especially on programming forums,
where people start taunting even if you are completely right.
Since i just started 3ds Max i want to hear what others think about it, as i saw that
anand was a great place about computers.

i would also second the suggestion for blender, very good for a free open source tool. though i am pretty bad at it, i was able to use it to make some simple shapes. i was surprised at how complicated modeling is!
 
I have already bought 3ds Max 2013 so no need for blender
Modeling is complicated the first time you make it.
Next time you feel like it is a joke.
 
Since it appears the OP is not a spam-bot 🙂, here's what little I know about the subject: 3ds Max is a tool for creating 3d models that are used in many different industries, from computer software, to film and animation, to industrial design, etc. If you master it you should have fairly good prospects for employment, although if that employment should happen to be in the games business you might have a harder time finding long-term stability. Anyway, it's not a bad skillset to have, and you can certainly make a living at it.

Having worked with autodesk in the past, been an insider with them since 3dstudio R4, the very first thing you need to do is enroll at a college or school somewhere. The reason for doing this is that purchasing max outright isn't cheap, averages about $5k depending on features and other apps you include. Students get a discount and can get it for just a few hundred.

Max has a free trial on the autodesk site to see if you are going to like the program or not. The application itself has grown over the years to the point where they now have just about anything you can dream of as part of the core app, no longer requiring tons of plugins like in the past. The downside is hardware requirements have gone up and some say the program is starting to bog down under the weight of all the features.

Max is an extremely deep program and people that have been using it for years still learn new things.
