While it's been a rather tumultuous year for Duke Nukem series handler 3D Realms--the company laid off its internal development team in May, leading to a messy legal feud with publisher Take-Two over Duke Nukem Forever--CEO Scott Miller still envisions a bright future for the ass-kicking, gum-lacking action hero.

"The next few years should see a strong resurgence in Duke," Miller states in the first printed issue of Gamesauce. "There are numerous other Duke games in various stages of development, several due out this year. We are definitely looking to bring Duke into casual gaming spaces, plus there are other major Duke games in production."

"Almost all of these [projects] are unannounced," he added.

As for the long-coming Duke Nukem Forever, Miller stressed that "we've never said that Duke Nukem Forever has ceased development," explaining "yes, we released the internal team, but that doesn't correlate to the demise of the project." Back in June, 3D Realms claimed it was still working on "the development of" Duke Nukem Forever, despite having "released the majority of its employees working on the development."

The casual Duke games are no surprise. They've been cranking those out for years now.

It's funny that Miller is saying there is a chance that Duke4Never might actually be released at some point. However, it will likely be wrapped up in a legal battle for awhile, so at the point that gets sorted out it will be extremely outdated again. lol The saga continues..

Who here has played Manhattan Project? I'd honestly buy that one again if it was released on PSN. It was pretty fun.

Hopefully we'll see more Duke side scrollers being released. I'd be happy with that.

Scott Miller? He's the brains of the bunch. The problem is with Broussard - lazy fat pig who just wants to party like it's 1999 - he's the reason why DNF hasn't seen a store shelf [yet].

Scott has the right idea - give the project to an established external studio and the game WILL be finished.

"I think I would have abandoned internal development six or seven years ago," he replied when asked what he would have done differently. "I much prefer to work with external studios to develop games, as we did with [Remedy Entertainment on] Max Payne and [Human Head Studios on] Prey. Radar [Group] is following this very model, with no internal development...it's much more cost effective for us, with lower risk."

Casual gaming.. is that what they call those 3rd person games that end up going directly to the bargain bin at release?

It's best to just let Duke die and we remember the fun we had back in 1996

Hey, you have to give them credit - they still have a surprisingly loyal fan base and if a major "Duke" title is released in the next 5 years, you can guarantee it'll sell like hotcakes just because people will want to see what all the fuss was about.

Me, I played Duke 3D when I was 10ish. It was fun for the time, but not something that made me want a sequel. Just a bunch of immature running, gunning, strippers, and swears. If this entire fiasco was over something like Half-Life 3, on the other hand, I'd be livid.

In my humble opinion Duke Nukem 3D should remain the "best" of the existing DN games, and no one else than the very original team should give a try to another DN game, and since that is now impossible I simply think that any new DN game to be released by another team, whatever team it may end up be, will simply not be on par with the game-play that DN3D offered, especially not for the "purists", in other words whatever new DN game we'll get people will still complain that despite the good graphics (probably) the game just sucks. It's like trying to make a System Shock 3 that is just as good if not better than SS2, but that's not possible and we all know it.

The Duke Nukem franchise, in my book, is long gone and it should remain as such.
