ok, that is my setup according to 3dmarks, I posted on this yesterday, but this is more info. I cleaned up my system a bit and re-ran 3dmarks, my score went from like 38something to 4040, not much of a jump, so I won't account it to anything I did. Any ways, when I compare to exact systems they are killing me. The overall scores are 2000+ more. And in the game demos they are hitting a good 20 fps more, on some 40+. This is annoying, I know my system ain't the best, but it should at least hang with ones that are configured about the same. I'm thinking maybe I need a different version of Dentinators, but I don't keep up on which are the best, I just know the latest ain't always the best.

any suggestions on tweeks I could do? Right now I'm about to set my FSB higher and OC my video card. Also is the CPU coming up as unknown because I'm oc'ing it (1700+ running @ 2000+) But the systems I'm beching against don't have at least the FSB bus set any higher, hummm... I just want decent frame rates when I play SOFII, without having to set it for 800x600, is that too much to ask? :)

in my BIOS I have the AGP size set to 64 megs, this probably has *some* impact, but if I set it to anything else XP won't boot (system POST's then reboots right as XP should start loading)

Actually, your score may not be as far off as you think. The Geforce4MX designation is basically a re-vamped GeForce2. They also come in many flavours, some that exceed the GeForce2 Ti performance, and some that fall below it (it depends on a number of factors, but perhaps most especially type of RAM). I recently saw another post here by someone getting in the 3800 range with 3DMark2001 and a similar setup to yours. My son's setup (with an XP1700+ and GeForce2Ti) gets a score of around 4600. But I know of other GeForce4MXs getting in the low 5000s as well. So there's a huge range.

Realistically, a graphics card upgrade is really all you can do at this point. I'd recommend something like the Radeon 9500 Pro if you can swing it. That should easily bring your 3DMark2001 score to over 10,000.

maybe, but what gives with other people with MX cards getting such high scores??? I mean I don't care as long as my system is running decently, which it is. But when I see a same setup PC getting 6950 it's frustrating, to say the least :)

Well, in the last thread you posted about this, I thought there were some obvious answers.

1) You have a MSI geforce 4 MX 440 SE. This is running at 270/333 MHz. The memory bandwidth of this card is significantly lower than other Geforce4 MX's.

2) The scores in the ORB are all skewed such that it doesn't provide a good baseline for comparison.

3) 3dMark is a synthetic benchmark, so the results are theoretical.

But when I see a same setup PC getting 6950 it's frustrating, to say the least

The point that your missing is that it's not the same setup. It's a heavily overclocked Geforce4 MX with Mipmap LOD bias cranked through the roof.

Just to humor myself (it didn't work), I searched the ORB with your setup. Ironically, most of the scores in the 6000's have fillrate numbers indicating that their cards are overclocked to the +300/550-600 range. That's almost twice the memory bandwidth of your card.

If you want to feel better, when you do a search put in a score range of 3800 to 4200 and see all the people who score the same as you do.

4) Get a grip. If you get frustrated because your computer isn't as fast as someone elses... you probably need to step back from the keyboard.
