make sure you have all the drivers installed in the proper order (video, direct X). it sounds like a driver issue.

definitely get the patch.

try running at low res, just to see if its a stress issue or driver issue.

does it crash before it starts or at the same screen consistently?

yea always crashes druning dragothic

and i doubt its a stress issue because teh comp is brand new. got it from cyberpowerinc.com 3 days ago and just installed teh 9700 so it should be good to go

I'd check out the forums at Rage3d as there are folks with the card there, Its a new rig AND a new card...could be about anything, driver issues, heat issues, power issues. Did he have another card in the rig before...was it stable? Did he uninstall the old drivers? How?

Wow he bought a new computer with a GF 4 4600, only to replace it 3 days later with a R9700... Is it just 3Dmark? OpenGL? Still sounds like a driver issue, and isn't there a detinator destroyer or something to remove nVidia drivers?

You have to do more than remove the drivers from add/remove software. Especially when going from one family of video cards to another. Some people even reinstall the OS just to be sure to remove all traces. I dont advise that you go that far, but you should at least download regcleaner to remove all nvidia entries from your regestry. Or as rbv5 said get detonator destroyer.

yes i pluged in teh power thing on teh card. i figured cleaner woudl fix it ill tell him about that destroyer thing

it plays games fine he was runnin SS:SE at 1200x1024 with 4xAA with no problims at all. works on same res with RTCW and MOHAA so thats why I think its just 3dmark thats being stupid

well apperentily it just does random restarts now. so its somethin other then teh vid drivers. hes NOT ocing anything so its not a temp issue he has good case coolin. he ran that detinator destroier but couldent remove any of teh things it found. he said it found a lot. might be because he removed them with recleaner first or somethin andway i told him to uninstall everything he has installed and start from the beginning. and if that dosent work hes gonna do a reinstall

I used to have the same problem...
there are 3 possiblities..

1)if you want to run 3dmark, always check power supply..
I don't have R9700, but I'm sure it uses more Volt than any other video cards..

2)try to run 3dmark with case OPEN.. and if you have a big fan, use it..
sometimes, the temperature inside the case gets so hot and causes the crash..
even if you don't overclock, it crashes because of temp..

3)reinstall driver

I had the same problem going from GF3-ti200 to R8500. The only fix for me was a re-install of the OS. No problems since.
