I don't care too much about 3dmark06 scores, but I like to play with it occasionally- usually when I complete a new build. I just finished my new build:

XP
q9550 @ 3.0
Mushkin @800+ 3.3 gigs (xp limitation)
2900pro
ZALMAN ZM750-HP psu
GIGABYTE GA-EP45-UD3P
Western Digital Caviar SE16 WD6400AAKS

My old build was a 939 X2 @ 2.6.

The 2900pro was in both systems. The only game I have installed so far is TF2 and it runs alot better on the new system of course. Any ideas? Is it just b/c 3dmark sucks or is it something else?

edit: old system scored 12000, new scores about 10000

Are you absolutely sure you were at 12k? MY s939 @ 2.4 and my 8800GTS 320mb only scored 7159. My current build scored 12580.

That 2900pro isn't very powerful. I truly doubt it was at 12k. People with overclocked Core2's when they came out were bragging that something finally got over the 10K mark.

Yeh, there's no way your old system scored anywhere near 12000. Maybe you were thinking of a different version of 3DMark?

That video card is slower than mine (based off the same basic chip) and your old processor was also slower (again based off the same chip) and I only score 9900 in 3DMark06.

10000 with the CPU upgrade looks about right for your setup, since 3DMark06 is sensitive to processing power and multiple cores.

Im going with the crowd here. 12K sounds waaaaay too high for the system you describe.

odd... I saved the output from my old system and just looked at it and that is the number it came up with. it was an 063dmark file. I will check again when i get home. It might be an 05 score.

thanks for the replies.

Yeah.. this is why I was surprised. Unfortunately there is no obvious way to tell between 2005 and 2006 3Dmark saved scores. I had to compare the actual benchmark titles.. some of which are the same.

My old system was a AMD 6000+ x2 with 4 gigs Fatality ddr2-800 ram, and windows xp pro sp3. with a Asus 9800gt Ultimate running stock clocked, plus that card had all 128 stream processors enabled, I scored 11,156 3dmarks. the cpu was o/c to 3.3 from 3.0 stock. I installed another exact same card for sli and my scored climbed about 1300 3dmarks higher to almost 12,500 3dmarks.

i just installed a new Asrock k10n780sliX3-wifi board and a new AMD Phenom2 720 Blackedtion triple core with 4 gigs of OCZ gold ddr2 1066. I clocked the cpu to 3.6, with no voltage increase, no increase in FSB. I left it at 200MHZ. I ran 3dmark06 at default settings with only 1 Asus 9800gt Ulitmate in the system and scored 15077 3dmarks. i would seem that you may have a problem, not sure what but I think it should score better than that.
My results:

The video card is a big mismatch.

The 939 X2 system in my sig gets 8300 in 3DMark06. Simply replacing the video card added 4000 points (not that it's particularly significant).
