I ran 3DMark06 on my system (found in my sig) and got like 1-25 FPS through the entire test. It was difficult to watch; I let it finish and ended with a 4100 as a final score. Based on my system, is this a poor result?

I've been having some heat problems, but that's most likely attributed to the fact that my room feels like a steam room over the summer - temps in mid to upper 70's consistently - which I'm pretty sure does affect general system temps. The graphics card under load is typically upper 50's to lower-mid 60's C (idle is around 53C)

EDIT: Forgot to mention; I ran the 3dMark tests using a wide aspect ration and a resolution of 1650x1050.

Search the ORB for a system similar to yours, and compare. Dont put too much stock in what 3dmark says, instead look to games for numbers to compare to.

What's the ORB?

Online result browser. Once you get a score for your system, you should be able to search and compare it to a similar system.

Your score looks fine for 1680x1050. Don't run 3DMark06 at anything other than the stock settings (1280x1024, no AA/AF). If you run at non-standard settings your score is void because no one will know how to compare it to anything.

Also, for an X1800 XT you should expect your FPS to be pretty low. The CPU tests should give you 0-1 FPS.

I'd expect he ran it stock. 3DMark seems like it was DESIGNED to run like shit, makes it seem more "futuristic!"

I actually didn't run it in stock. I've never used 3DMark before. I'll try it again, hopefully that'll boost my scores.

I want to use 3DMark to determine if there's a problem with my card. I play CS:Source religiously, and it chokes ALOT, with my FPS dropping from 130 to 30 upon encountering other players. Is it safe to assume that whichever tests underperforms (CPU vs. GPU) is the culprit? Both are still under warranty.

Normally if a component becomes degraded and/or fails the signs will be a lot more telling than games running slowly. It's not like it's an engine low on oil or something :) If you're experiencing what you consider unwarranted slowdowns (ie you're not running CS:S max everything with smokes popping all over the place) then you should consider addressing the software side of the equation. Are your drivers current? Do you have crap in the background of your OS chewing up CPU cycles? That sort of thing.

I do have the most current drivers - and I close all my background processes before playing. I'll have to pay attention to it when I play or run 3DMark to see which area struggles more.

gpu is much more important for you. 4100 is a good score for that res. I got 5600 on my x1950 xt using an opteron 180 at standard 3dmark06 settings.
