3DMark06 Question

First time ever running this app. How good is a score of:

11965 overall --> SM2.0 score = 4911, HDR/SM3.0 score = 5197, and CPU score = 3680 using Q6600 at 2.65 GHz and 4 GB RAM with 8800GTX? Curious if I should be getting a lot higher or not.

Seems like a good score to me. I get about 12,500 with my system - very similar to yours except I have my Q6600 running at 3Ghz and my 8800GTX overclocked to 669/1100. I am running vista x64 though, and I suspect the drivers are holding me back a little bit though.

Yeah Vista 64 bit here also. Think I can get my 8800 GTX to those specs? I got a nice cooling system with the Stacker 831 and 7 fans, etc.

Well, I am running a Thermalright HR-03 Plus aftermarket cooler on the GTX, and I replaced the sticky pads for the memory with arctic silver adhesive - so I do have an advantage over stock cooling.

Your best bet is to overclock a little at a time and see what you can get. If you are wanting to run an aftermarket cooler, I highly recommend that HR-03, the card now idles around 38-40C, and loads never go above 50C. It does take up some space though, depending on how it is mounted.

Never knew had coolers for the cards, lol I do have a Ultra Extreme 120 for the pc -- to bad POS mobo will not go past 2.65, lol

I too have a Thermalright Ultra120 extreme, here is a pic where you can see how big the HR03 is compared to the Ultra120 -

What motherboard do you have?

Not bad @ all considering you are using the X64 version.

I run Ultimate 32-bit with:

Q6600 @ 3.9ghz (Thermalright Ultra 120)
8800GTX 660 / 1955 (980 orso)

I believe that got me 13,386 points or so.

CPU score alone wa 6086.

I wish I could overclock my GTX a bit more!

First of all, 3DMarkXX is pretty useless for telling you "how good" your rig is.

Secondly it is primarily a 3D test and not a CPU test - even though it is "weighed" in with the score

Thirdly, i have a slower CPU then yours with half the cache and cores, half the RAM, and a slower Video card ... and i get about an 8% lower score then yours that i could easily boost by further OC'ing 😛

3DMarkXX is really most useful for tracking changes in a system

So any other good benchmarking tools then if its useless, hehe Just got 12,400 now with Q6600@2.66 GHz, 8800GTX@635 & 2050 (max temp hit was 62 celsius on the GPU). I could maybe go higher with the GTX but will keep it here for now, lol For the GPU which matters more the clock or memory overclock?

POS NF63 Evga and of course builder did not tell me specs on the mobo.

not totally useless ... good for tracking changes within a system

SiSoft Sandra has CPU benching ... and it is also free

... actually *all* benchmarking tools have the same kinds of limitations that 3DMarkXX has ...

Go play some games
-if you are a gamer
--there are even some DX10 games out now that will showcase your HW
[Lost Planet/Call of Juarex/CoH ... BioShock next Tues]

--for GPU OC'ing the core clock will generally provide the most performance increase
