i have an x850 xt oc'd to 595/630 and i got a 6897. this a good score? i've seen people w/ x850s oc'd to over 700/650. mine crashes hard when i put it to 600. what's the deal w/ this?

anyway, post your 3dmark05 scores so i can compare!

6900 hah. Considering some sites say the 7800 GTX does 7400, I guess that's pretty good ;)

welcome.

the easiest thing to do is run your score and then use the online results browser. its free to register and you can search your cpu and such.

or use the search at the top of this forum, there are a few threads on it but its tough to wade through all the scores that way.

it looks like a fine score but no 2 chips will oc the same. and oc'ing a card like that is a bit overkill unless you bought it to run 3dmarks. you won't see any game difference.

I get 2300 with my 9800 pro at stock.
It's running on a 2.1Ghz Axp and 1Gb of crappy Hynix RAM, on a ASUS A7V8X mobo tho :p

I just upped my clocks from stock (520/540) to what Cat 5.7 found to be best stable for my system (574/567). At these clocks the max core temperature was about 69-71C with stock cooling (fan speed at constant 100% courtesy of Rivatuner 2). I also tried at 590/590.

Here's what I got:

Driver: Core/Memory: 3DMark05:
Catalyst 5.3 520/540 5904
Catalyst 5.7 520/540 6245
Catalyst 5.7 574/567 6744
Catalyst 5.7 590/590 6894

BTW, if your scores seem incorrect, make sure all other settings are equel, especially that you don't have something like AA or AF on overriding the 3DMark05 settings.

I get like 5900 with my x850xt and everything at stock. Have played with oc settings and scores seem to go down by 600 points rather than going up, so I stopped playing. The card is plenty fast anyways. :)

hey gimp, i noticed the same thing, in hl2 my scores went down from 120fps to about 60fps because of certain settings that may seem innocent. Example:

Truform: seems to cause a drop in about 20fps without any noticeable change in graphics

Wait for Vsync: drops the fps in order match pixel fill rates (disable unless you have
nasty smearing)

Antialiasing and Anisotropic filtering: Always reduce frame rates, but I've found that using Catalyst to override game settings produces fps lower than the "Let application decide" option while turning on the same (6x/16x) settings in the game.

no matter how much you spend on your system, they'll just release another version of the 3Dmark that makes your system seem lame.
I don't care about benchmarks as much as in-game performance. well, I guess that means FPS, but that's about it.
This is exactly why I don't run these anymore. that, and it takes away from potential gaming time.

Yes. However, Vsync is not affecting your game play, so i still use it. e.g. in HL2 i may get 80 to 100 fps for a certain area, but with vsync its limited to 75 fps (to match the 75Mhz LCD), so the fps dont fluctuate so much, and the picture will be smoother.

Also, ATI's Catalyst A.I., Geometry Instancing, and Triple Buffering will improve performance. I also use ATI Tray Tool (free for download) for more tweaking options. This program has more in depth settings and full overclocking and fan control support, even video memory timinngs, though I don't recommend touching those!

Good luck, dude, I fried my card while running 3Dmark05, (the fan was reset ran at 5%). I'm eagerly anticipating the R520, but for now I'm thanking God for VPU recovery, and wishing I hadn't run it at 600/600 Mhz!!! Ensure you always have tabs on your core and ambient temps, its very easy to slip when you cross the line while tweaking.

3dmark01:

21467

3dmark03:

11981

3dmark05:

6110

using cat. 5.6 @ stock speeds (vid card). cat. 5.7 shows a mild performance increase for 01, and 03. 05 resulted a 20 point lost.
