Just out of curiosity, my 3dmark score was only 3482 after a new pc build. Everything is running stock, not overclocking yet and I was wondering why I have such a low score.

My drivers are the Xtreme G 77.62 HD for my Geforce 6600GT. This guy told me to disable the PEG Link options in the bios and then install these drivers for optimum performance. He then proceeded to tell me to overclock my card using Coolbits 2.0.

My system specs:

CPU: Athlon 64 3200+ Venice
MB: Asus A8N-SLI nForce4 SLI
RAM: OCZ 1gb (2x512) dual channel PC3200 DDR400 2.5 CAS
COOLING CPU: XP-90C w/ Panaflo 92mm H1B fan
COOLING CHASSIS: Panaflo 120mm rear exhaust fan, Panaflo 92mm side intake fan, Stock 120mm front intake fan
CASE: Thermaltake Soprano

I haven't overclocked anything yet as I'm still breaking the system in but I wanted to know if my drivers have anything to do with low 3dmark bench scores (3482). I did a comparison and found some guys have scores of 7300-7400, but they have overclocked their cards to like 550/1200 or so. My card is running stock at 500/1000. Does overclocking the video card have this much of a 3dmark bench effect? Or do I need different video drivers?

Please advise and many thanks!
Joe

For a 6600GT that is not low..

A 6800GT ( about the performance of 2 6600's ) scores about 5500..

You seem to be right on the money..

Bump that CPU to 2.6ghz and you will break 4000 for sure..Overclock that GPU and you should get over 4500..

So the reason some people with almost the same pc specs have higher scores is because they have overclocked? I know overclocking gives better performance obviously but THAT much?? We are talking almost over double my score. I had 3482 ..he had like 7163 or something.

Take a look at this...he has everything I have except he has different video drivers and he's overclocked his card. These were his results:

Oh wait a second...I know why now. These guys have 2 cards (SLI) in their systems. Ugh. Sorry about that guys. I feel dumb now.

Quick question however:

Should I keep these Xtreme G 77.62 HD drivers that I downloaded off of guru3d.com or should I just get the latest from nvidia.com (77.72) and re-enable the PEG Link configs in the BIOS?

Your thoughts?

The NVIDIA drivers will give you better scores in 3dmark05. The Xtreme G drivers will give you much better image quality and slightly better framerates in every program except for sythetic benchmarks.

3400-3500 is right on for a stock 6600GT, those rigs that you see scoring 6800-7200 are using SLI setups (mobo has 2 PCI-E slots and they have 2 6600GT's installed), and they are Ocing also.

With OCing you may be able to push a single 6600GT to about the 4100-4300 range in 3Dmark05. I saw one single 6600GT scoring 4500, but that was with an extreemly high OC (not typically reached by most users).
