3dMark03 runs on WinXP but not Win2K

OK - this one puzzles me.

Got a dual boot rig that has an XP 2700+, 768MB PC2700 DDR, 400W Antec PSU, a Dell ATI 9800 flashed to Pro.

On both, have Direct X9.0b as well as the latest SP's (SP4 for Win2K and SP2 for WinXP).

I can run 3DMark03 and 3DMark05 well on WinXP but I just can't get 03 to run on Win2K - I get the Direct3d initialization failed message" - what am I missing?

Just a hunch, but have you tried upgrading to DirectX 9.0C?

yep, get 9.0c xp sp2 includes it

I'll try that. It still seems strange that it would run fine in XP and not in 2K. It's sorta similar to the issue posted in this thread except his was a WinXP rig: http://forums.tweaktown.com/ar.../index.php/t-8516.html

Since it's a new build, I don't have any probs reinstalling Win2k - just need to understand what may be the cause(s) of this phenomenon . . . .
