3dmark scores screwed over by what?

problem - yesterday i ran 3dmark2001, and got 6748 with this system:

AMD 1.4 ghz tbird
256mb ddr pc2100
geforce3 ti200 overclocked to 225/500
Asus a7a266

Then today, i updated the video drivers to 23.11, and i also cleaned off my heatsink and processor and applied some arctic silver (temps stayed the same anyway, but i thought id mention it).

so the only thing thats changed was i put on arctic silver and updated the drivers, but now when i run 3dmark, i get a score of 5912. This seems quite a bit lower to me, what the hell happened?

anyone know whats up? both tests i'm using the default settings for 3dmark.

It is likely the driver update....

Did you do a clean install? Did you make sure you cleared old det drivers??

I always set vga card back to standard device then make sure all drivers and registry info is removed then restart...The I update drivers from a file folder I downloaded them into...

i didnt even think of that. right now im downloading the 27.50 det version, and before i install that, ill uninstall the other ones. hopefully it fixes the queerness.

yeah, that worked great. if i tried installing the drivers without uninstalling the other ones first, every time i came into windows i would get a rundll error from one of the driver files.

so, after uninstalling them all, and reinstalling the 27.50 det drivers, im now getting even higher scores on 3dmark than i was originally. thanks for the help.
